Following three Immigration and Customs Enforcement attacks in the area, the protests started on Friday. Protesters gathered in front of the Los Angeles Federal Building to demand a stop to the attacks.
What the key people have done in the last 72 hours are listed below.
Donald Trump
Trump issued an order to send 2, 000 National Guard members to LA to assist federal law enforcement with immigration protection after protests grew on Saturday.
After two weeks of murder, conflicts, and unrest, the National Guard did a great job in Los Angeles, Trump wrote on Sunday in a post on Truth Social. These extreme left demonstrations, organized by troublemakers and frequently paid malcontents, will NOT BE tolerated.
The question is then whether Trump may invoke the Insurrection Act, a 1792 law that allows the president to send soldiers to the country when needed. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, it is commonly used to handle domestic violence or rebellion situations.
” Relies on whether or not there is an insurrection,” Trump said to writers on Sunday. We won’t let them get ahead with it,” the statement read. We won’t allow this to happen to our nation because we will have troops outside. Our nation won’t get torn asunder, we won’t allow it.”
Trump doesn’t think the demonstrations in LA qualify as an uprising, but that may change as of yesterday evening.
WHAT TO KNOW About THE PROTESTS, TRUMP’S Statement, AND Extra
Gavin Newsom
Gov. The National Guard’s deployment in LA has been opposed by Gavin Newsom (D-CA ) from the beginning. In a post on X on Saturday, he urged protesters to be peaceful and to” speak out peacefully,” claiming that the federal government wants a” spectacle.”
On Sunday, Newsom officially requested that the management leave Los Angeles. In a post on X, he wrote,” We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved. This” a serious violation of state independence,” “inflames conflicts while diverting resources from their true needs.”
Newsom claimed that his demand to Trump has been ignored and that he also spoke to writer Jacob Soboroff on MSNBC on Sunday for an interview. According to Newsom,” Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your Screen tonight,” in reference to Trump’s decision to organize the National Guard. We’re going to check that idea with a lawsuit tomorrow, and it’s an illegal act, an evil act, an unlawful act.
Newsom reiterated his need to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration for X on Monday. In his blog, Newsom wrote,” The order he signed doesn’t just apply to CA.” He will be able to enter ANY STATE and do the same item. We are suing him.
Rob Bonta
Attorney General of California Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against the Trump presidency on Monday.
Bonta, who took over the presidency in 2021,  , accused Trump of breaking federal laws and the 10th Amendment by deploying the National Guard without Newsom’s authorization.
Bonta referred to Trump’s choice to install the National Guard as “unnecessary” and” counterproductive.”
There is no invasion, Bonta said, let me be evident. There is no uprising, they say. For his own political purposes, the President is attempting to create conflict and problems on the ground. We don’t take the California National Guard softly because it is a violation of the President’s legal expert. We’re asking a judge to stop the extraordinary, immoral purchase.
Karen Bass
Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass also opposed the city’s implementation of National Guard personnel. In an interview with NPR on Sunday, she said that the Los Angeles Police Department’s mobilization was” an intentional effort to cultivate conflict.” She claimed that Trump’s decision to organize the National Guard was sufficient to tame the demonstrations.
Bass ‘ efforts have centered on assisting leaders in the fight for immigrant rights by facilitating sessions between leaders and those who have been detained.
Bass echoed Newsom’s call for peaceful demonstrations now. In a post on X, Bass wrote that “LA has a happy story of peaceful protest for refugees right.” We must carry on that reputation; don’t fall into the Trump Administration’s trap.
Tom Homan
Tom Homan, the “border king” at the White House, has praised the work Glacier has been doing in Los Angeles. According to a blog on X on Saturday, the organization reported 118 prosecutions last week that included five group members.
Homan responded to criticism of emigration protection in LA by appearing on Fox News for an interview.
HUGO GURDON ON THE LOS ANGELES RIOTS: FOR TOO LONG, VIOLENCE HAS Being TOLERATED.
You have First Amendment protections, Homan said on Monday. However, if you violate that rule, you put arms on an ICE officer, destroy house, or limit law enforcement. That’s a crime. And it won’t be tolerated by the Trump presidency.
Homan even criticized Newsom’s handling of the situation in Los Angeles, arguing that the government waited too long before taking any steps to tackle the violence.
He has already left the game, Homan said. ” President Trump isn’t late to the game,” he said.
