Trump’s 'Big Beautiful Bill': Millions face stricter work rules - what changes are proposed under food aid program?
The US’s largest meal assistance plan, SNAP, is being significantly reduced by President Trump’s proposed budget, which has a disproportionate impact on millions of people.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP ) for low-income groups is one of the largest food aid programs, and US President Donald Trump‘s recently introduced” Big Beautiful Bill” proposes significant reductions in federal spending. The proposed changes to the foods aid system may need more money to be made up of by says, require more consumers to work, and potentially cut back on the amount of food aid provided in the future. The much-debated policy known as the” Big Beautiful Bill” was passed before by the Republican-led House to improve President Trump’s plan goals. On the day the Declaration of Independence was ratified, he requests that it be completed and sent to him by July 4.

What modifications are suggested for SNAP?

On October 1, 2008, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP ) was changed from the previously known food stamps to the federal food aid program. Low-income residents who make less than$ 1, 632 per month for individuals or$ 3, 380 for a family of four receive monthly payments for food purchases. Over 42 million people in the US were receiving SNAP benefits as of February, or about one in every eight persons. This is a lower from the 2013 national fiscal year’s top common of 47.6 million participants. More than one person in a house is frequently available for food support. Roughly 22.5 million households were enrolled in SNAP as of February, receiving an average monthly profit of$ 353. The US House’s legislation, in accordance with the Congressional Budget Office ( CBO ), could reduce federal SNAP spending by about$ 29 billion over the next ten years. Additionally, the costs would abolish SNAP benefits for immigrants who are citizens without citizenship or permanent residents, and between 120 000 and 250 000. Adults 18 to 54 years old who are dependent on their parents and are able to function may job, volunteer, or go through job training for at least 80 days per month to continue receiving SNAP benefits. They are only allowed to receive three decades of gains within a three-year time if they fail to do so. These job requirements may be expanded to those between the ages of 55 and 64 by the new costs. It would also use to some kids who have children under the age of seven. According to the CBO, these modifications may reduce SNAP cooperation by about 3. 2 million people per month. The federal government now splits the administrative costs with the states and provides for all SNAP meal advantages. By 2028, claims may be required to pay a portion of food benefits and pay 75 % of operational costs under the proposed legislation. The bill was overwhelmingly passed by just one vote ( 215–214 ). No Democrats in the House supported the invoice, and they are improbable to do so in the Senate, even though Republicans currently control 53 of the 100 Senate votes. Concerns about the costs have also been raised by some Democratic senators, particularly regarding possible reductions in food and health protection. They are concerned about a rise in the national imbalance. Senate officials may need to change some of the bill’s elements to get it approved.
