Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N. ) J. ) after entering the Delaney Hall Federal Immigration Facility in Newark, New Jersey, on May 9th, was charged with “forcibly impeding and interfering with national soldiers.”

U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba announced that McIver had been accused of “forcibly impeding and interfering with national soldiers” in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the allegations in the press release,” McIver forcibly impeded and interfered with federal officers as they attempted to arrest an individual outside the Delaney Hall Federal Immigration Facility in Newark, New Jersey on May 9, 2025,” the press release stated.

McIver and two other members of Congress traveled to the Delaney Hall Federal Immigration Facility on May 9 for a congressional oversight observation while a protest march was taking place in Newark, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. The attorney’s office noted that the president of Newark was even granted entry to the facility’s secured place and that the members of Congress had been granted access to the facility’s secured place.

According to the release on Tuesday, a federal officer was sued by McIver and other members of Congress after the official informed the Newark president that he was not permitted to be in the facility’s secured area and that he would be detained if he did not leave the area. When later on, according to the attorney’s business,” McIver and people surrounded the Mayor and prevented the soldiers from handcuffing him” [3].

Law enforcement officers attempted to arrest the Mayor again after he was escorted outside the sealed place. Someone in the audience yelled” circle the governor,” at this point. In an effort to stop HSI from completing the arrest, McCiver then turned to the president and positioned her hands around him, according to the press release. McIver slammed her arm into the body of one law enforcement officer as she tried to restrain him, and she continued to make unsuccessful arrests. McIver also forcibly struck a second officer with each of her arms.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey is now seeking McIver on two matters, each of which will result in eight years in prison. The third matter against her is expected to result in one year in jail.

Paul Fishman, McIver’s lawyer, responded to the congresswoman’s prosecution with” This trial is political retribution against a dedicated public slave… We fully anticipate the Congresswoman’s conviction,” according to a statement obtained by Fox News.
