A French physician who was aboard a humanitarian assistance vessel bound for Gaza has accused Israeli regulators of treating Greta Thunberg, a Swedish campaigner against climate change, badly after the vehicle was intercepted at water. One of the 12 passengers on the Madleen, Dr. Baptiste André, claimed that while in Israeli prison, people were mocked, denied sleep, and given minimal access to food and water. When he arrived in France, he told reporters,” I don’t have the legal requirements to describe what happened, but there were works of mistreatment.” In the midst of a worsening siege, The Madleen, organized by the pro-Palestinian Liberty Flotilla Coalition, left Italy on June 1 to take humanitarian aid to Gaza. It was reportedly 200 kilometers from the Gaza beach when Jewish naval forces intercepted it. Eight others are still in Israeli custody pending a court hearing, including Thunberg, while four other people signed imprisonment documents and were returned home. Thunberg, 22, claimed that Israel had unlawfully detained the protesters in international waters. When she arrived at Paris ‘ Charles de Gaulle airport, she said,” This is yet another intentional violation of rights that is added to the list of countless other violations that Israel is committed.” The Israeli government referred to the trip as a” selfie yacht” and claimed that it violated its naval blockade of Gaza. It also called the ship a” selfie yacht.” Thunberg characterized the trip as a peaceful protest against Israel’s embargo, which she claimed is worsening Gaza’s humanitarian crises.
