Dubai RTA deploys AI robot for metro inspections: Here’s what it can really do
Using LiDAR and 3D imaging, Dubai Metro’s new AI machine ARIIS, cutting manual labor by 1,700 days, allows tracks to be inspected without affecting operation.

Dubai’s Streets and Transport Authority (RTA ) has formally introduced an AI-powered mechanical system to evaluate and monitor the Dubai Metro’s rail lines and related equipment, a significant technological discovery for urban transport. As part of RTA’s most recent initiative to improve operational efficiency, maintain safer operations, and sustain Dubai Metro’s position as one of the most sophisticated urban rail systems worldwide, the mechanical platform, known as ARIIS, short for Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System, was unveiled on Thursday.

    From 2, 400 to 700 Man-Hours: Performance Gets a 75 % Boost

The RTA claims that the implementation of ARIIS results in a significant reduction in human labor. Typically, people personnel spent roughly 2,400 hours inspecting Dubai Metro’s considerable rail infrastructure. With ARIIS in place, this number can be reduced to 700 man-hours, resulting in a 75 % increase in operational efficiency. This basically means:

    • faster assessment cycles, making it easier to thoroughly and regularly check the road network.
    • Up to 70 % less manual checks, reducing human error and health risks.
    • The game’s advanced detector and imaging technology result in a 40 % improvement in infrastructure condition assessment.

This performance increase saves time and resources as well as increases method stability by actively identifying issues before they effect service.

What Is ARIIS and How Does It Operate?

A collection of cutting-edge technologies is available at ARIIS that can operate independently and without disrupting standard metro operations. Among them are:

    • LiDAR ( Light Detection and Ranging ) sensors: to create 3D maps of the rail environment and measure distances with laser precision.
    • For examining the wheels ‘ and other component’s surface integrity. High-resolution laser.
    • that capture the entire track facilities in 3D.

This technique navigates the songs, and it continues to gather information about road alignment, wear, waves, and structural anomalies. It facilitates forecast and proactive maintenance strategies, which RTA has emphasized as essential for improving cycle efficiency and reducing the need for emergency repairs. It also enables real-time analysis and long-term situation monitoring. Read more about Dubai’s fresh orange line place, which will be the world’s tallest metro station.

Leading stakeholders Applaud ARIIS for its gains in performance

Top executives at both RTA and Dubai Metro’s operating company, Keolis MHI, gave strong testimonials of the news. Abdul Mohsin Kalbat, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, expressed confidence in Dubai’s administration in developing innovative transportation solutions, saying,” Dubai is happy to guide in intelligent solutions to improve stability and efficiency of Dubai Metro. The introduction of ARIIS “is yet another significant step in our quest to keep our Metro as one of the most advanced and secure public transportation networks in the world,” Kalbat said. According to David Franks, managing director of Keolis MHI, the operating company of Dubai Metro,” ARIIS is a milestone achievement, significantly transforming our maintenance operations by improving safety, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making,” Franks said. Dubai sets a new regional standard for automated rail maintenance with the launch of ARIIS, which seamlessly aligns with its smart city goals.
