The US government confirmed that a citizen was briefly detained by US President Donald Trump on Friday at the Wilshire Federal Building in Los Angeles. This was the first known occurrence of its kind in the wake of continuous demonstrations over ICE raids. A representative for the US Northern Command clarified that while defense officers are not permitted to make arrests, they may hold people “in certain situation.” According to the spokesperson, these detentions end when the victim is securely handed over to human law enforcement. Eventually, the imprisoned person, Marcos Leao, 27, claimed to be an Army veteran and was traveling to a department of veterans affairs when he unintentionally crossed a golden tape limit and was stopped. Lee, who obtained citizenship in the United States through military company, claimed he received fair treatment. They are simply performing their duties, he said. The person is captured on video being restraining by the Marines using zip ties before being handed over to DHS employees. In a wider deployment in response to days of protests over immigration assaults, the active work troops took over security obligations at the national building earlier on Friday. In LA, 200 Marines and more than 2, 000 National Guard personnel are currently stationed to defend national property and staff. They are anticipated to have 500 Marines and 2 000 members of the National Guard. The US government is usually prohibited from engaging in human law enforcement actions under the Posse Comitatus Act. Trump could use the Insurrection Act, which would enable troops to impose laws explicitly on US soil, to increase military participation.
