HS student claims was forced to take off keffiyeh at graduation, escorted out by cops

The state’s “dedication to nationalist comfortability is a venom to the right to free speech.”

A student at a high school in the Philadelphia area claims that they were forced to remove” their” keffiyeh at the graduation ceremony last week, and then escorted out by police once they had received” their” diploma.

Lower Merion High School, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, has issued a warning to students that they must not make “political or specific statements that detract from the purpose of the graduation ceremony.”

And that’s exactly what city officials reportedly told the student,” Evan,” according to” their” Instagram, that the keffiyeh “represented a’political statement.'”

The Keffiyeh robe is “often associated with Israeli identity and the battle for a Arab state,” according to The Inquirer.

Evan ( who uses plural pronouns ) claimed in an Instagram post that they weren’t aware that the keffiyeh would” cause a disruption” but that school officials had warned him otherwise.

Evan wrote,” I told them i did not take my robe off for an unfair purpose.” Keep in mind that I’ve never experienced any backlash while wearing this exact headband to class and other activities.”

Evan ( pictured ) added that his mother and the administrators “required”” them” to consent to be searched, and that they “required” his mother to “negotiate” with the officials.

Evan remarked in piece that Lower Merion’s commitment to nationalist comfortability is a poison to freedom of speech and expression. They accused the district of “propagating nationalist thought within the student system” and” succumbing” to “zionist families.”

    From the narrative:

Lower Merion city officials were asked to forgive and reevaluate their policies by the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Ahmet Selim Tekelioglu, senior director of CAIR-Philadelphia, said,” The infraction by LMSD of this person’s right to full participation in the meeting after their contract to the removal of the keffiyeh-patterned robe is greatly troubling.” …

Kids should be permitted to do that if someone wants to show support for Jewish victims, Tekelioglu said in an exam. However,” there’s nothing wrong with someone who may want to utilize a keffiyeh,” is true.

Tekelioglu claimed that while “in several ways, all in existence can be democratic,” the keffiyeh is not a political statement. In a world that is frequently dehumanizing them, he claimed he wore one as an “expression of cooperation and recognition of the Arab people.”

Lower Merion Alliance for Free Speech on Palestine, the organization’s native family organization, claimed the keffiyeh problem “reflected social bias and natural racism.”

According to Amy Buckman, a spokeswoman for Lower Merion, students who wore something that flouted the rules had the option of removing those items and not participating, or never removing them and never participating.
