The UN nuclear watchdog’s recent findings indicate Iran’s non-compliance with its nuclear duty, and Van der Leyen’s remarks come in response. Iran then announced its intentions to raise its production of enriched uranium, despite the claim that it would not reach the weapons-grade levels it had. She compared Iran’s actions in the Middle East to its help for Russia in the Ukraine conflict during the G7 media briefing, noting that Iranian-made weapons were “indiscriminately hitting locations not only in Israel but also in Ukraine.” Von der Leyen also spoke about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling the situation “unacceptable.
