Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, swiftly acknowledged that the lower chamber may thwart account of the bill despite the House’s passage on Wednesday that may impose a ban on the sale of the Chinese-owned social media app TikTok.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee on March 7 approved the legislation in a rare bipartisan and unequivocal manner.

The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act was therefore passed by the House in record-breaking fashion, 352 to 65. The bill was introduced by Reps. Mike Gallagher, R- Wis., and Raja Krishnamoorthi, D- Ill.

Due to concerns about the enormously popular social media company’s relationships to the Chinese Communist Party, the legislation would require a Chinese firm called ByteDance to withdraw from the TikTok application if it wants to continue operating in the United States.

Critics contend that TikTok uses CCP files and that habit has been linked to the social media app. &nbsp,

The type of TikTok that China allows in its own state” serves children at- house science experiments, museum exhibits, patriotism videos, and academic videos”, Carrie Sheffield, a top fellow at Women’s Independent Voice, wrote in an op- ed published Sunday in the New York Post.

Schumer, the Senate’s major Democrat, has expressed problems with TikTok in the past.

” A U. S.company should get TikTok so everyone can stay using it and your data is safe”, Schumer posted on X, previously Twitter, in 2020. ” This is about protection. In China, TikTok is subject to laws from the Chinese Communist Party that may involve giving data to the country’s government. A healthy way may be found for TikTok to maintain”.

The New York Democrat’s comments before and after the House bill’s passage suggest that he is n’t too eager to have President Joe Biden sign the legislation.

According to NBC News, Schumer told reporters that he would have to and want to consult with my relevant council chairmen to find out what their views may be.

After the House voting, the Senate majority leader also appeared to be quite coy.

” The Senate may review the policy when it comes over from the House”, Schumer said Wednesday, giving no timeline for when it does come up for a ballot, Roll Call reported.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer appears to be willing to take his time advancing the bill if it does, according to Politico Playbook, despite his enthusiasm for all items tough-on-China.

Due to this uncertainty, TikTok bill supporters have criticized the major Senate Democrat.

Great, but Schumer has backed the CCP-controlled TikTok withdrawal since 2020.

He’ll take a costs he’s supported for 4 ages to the surface, right? Or will it accumulate dirt like the majority of the Senate’s members? https ://t.co/cfc9xoVrN0

It makes sense to forc TikTok to leave Foreign socialist rule. There is no justification for Chuck Schumer to veer off a ballot in the Senate. https ://t.co/R38kmLKI6v— Jon Gabriel ( @exjon ) March 14, 2024

China uses Tik Tok to control our votes &amp, Schumer’s okay with that.

TikTok launched a massive advocacy campaign to obstruct the bill’s section, including sending a influx of TikTok supporters to Capitol Hill.

House lawmakers ‘ agencies received calls from young people and youth requesting that TikTok remain as it is.

” Twitter fires everybody away and then our practices are getting called with thousands of people calling up”, said Rep. Chip Roy, R- Texas, according to Fox Business. ” Some child called in, said they were going to commit suicide. We have people calling in saying,’ I’m on this all day long, every time. You the n’t take this away from me.’ It’s like we called into an AA meet”.

The policy was cruel, according to a China spokesman.

According to Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” The U.S. House of Representatives passing this bill lets the United States stand on the opposite side of the principles of fair competition and international trade rules.” There would be no justice to speak of if so-called national security causes can be used to willfully suppress other nations ‘ superior companies.

China, however, has banned U. S. social media companies from operating it.

According to an RMG Research surveys from December, most Americans favor banning TikTok.
