One environmental group claims that Australia’s top scientific system estimated the cost of nuclear energy production incorrectly, noting that the numbers could be three to six times the cost in reality.
The team’s remarks come as a result of a discussion over the monthly GenCost report, which compared Australia’s renewable energy and nuclear costs.
The consultation draft was made available in December 2023 by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization ( CSIRO ), one of Australia’s largest scientific research organizations.
According to the report, nuclear energy, particularly small modular reactors ( SMRs ), is the most expensive energy source and was unfit for Australian use. Rather, it recommends solar and wind power as a more financially viable alternative with the “lowest price range of any new-build engineering”…
