A crucial Senate Democrat said this week that she could not help the nomination, but a Biden presidency criminal candidate that has received resistance from Republicans since he was announced for the job has now faced opposition from within President Joe Biden’s own group.  ,
On November 15, 2023, President Biden announced Adeel Mangi as a U.S. Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in New Jersey.  ,
If confirmed, Mr. Mangi would be the first Muslim American to function as a federal appellate court judge. His election hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee was held on December 13, 2023, and it was voted out of that council on January 18 based on a party-line foundation of 11 to 10.
“[AFJ] has sponsored a brotherhood in the name of Kathy Boudin, a part of the local criminal organization Weather Underwater, and advocated for the release of people convicted of killing police officers. I don’t help this nominee”, Ms. Masto said in a statement to The Epoch Times.
Ms. Boudin, besides having been a part of Weather Underground, served a jail sentence for her role in a 1981 assault of a Brink’s armoured vehicle which resulted in the deaths of a Brink’s Guard and two police officers.  ,
Mangi’s History
Mr. Mangi is a partner at a Manhattan-based law firm, according to the Biden administration’s announcement of his nomination back in November. The White House said Mr. Mangi began his legal career there as an associate in 2000, became counsel in 2009, and was elevated to partnership in 2010.
Republican Committee Members Unite in Opposition ,
The Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee make a press release announcing the most recent team of law enforcement officials who are opposed to Mr. Mangi’s nomination on Tuesday, March 19.  ,
More than 50, 000 expert police officials from more than 200 part models are represented by the Police Conference of New York, according to the Republican media release. ” They join ten other law enforcement organizations urging the U. S. Senate to oppose Mangi’s nomination” . ,
The Republican people went on to provide information about the history of AFJ, its political intentions, and Ms. Boudin’s reputation within the business.  ,
The lawmakers also point out that Mr. Mangi served on the advisory board for the Rutgers Center for Security, Race and Rights and donated and facilitated practically$ 20,000 in cash for the Center.  ,
” This organization sponsored an event on the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001, featuring speakers who are tied to terrorism”, the GOP press release stated. One speech at this gathering was found guilty of supporting a criminal firm, another called for Intifada in the United States, and a third speaker organized gatherings with a criminal who hijacked planes.
Every Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, ten Republican Members of Congress representing components in the Third Circuit, and some Israeli companies have also opposed his election, according to the Democratic members.
In particular, the Police Conference of New York argued that Mr. Mangi’s involvement in AFJ was a disgrace to police officers.  ,
While it is one thing to advocate for the rights of those who are ignored or mistreated by society, it is a very different thing to honor unrepentant killers, or even terrorists, who were found guilty in court of law, according to the organization. ” As a member of the bar, Mr. Mangi clearly is smart enough to know the difference, and has made his choice”.
Biden Admin Praises Diversity of Nominees
Regarding Mr. Mangi and other judicial nominations in November of 2023, the Biden White House said that all of their nominees were “extraordinarily qualified, experienced, and devoted to the rule of law and our Constitution” . ,
Democrats Support Mangi
In their own press release late last week, the Jucidiary Committee’s Democratic majority claimed that despite “baseless accusations from Senate Republicans,” support for Mr. Mangi” continues to grow.” At the time, Ms. Masto has not made her opposition to the nominee public.  ,
Democrats on the committee said that law enforcement groups, labor advocates, and local and state leaders all endorse the confirmation of Mr. Mangi.
On the Senate floor earlier this month, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill. ), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, claimed Mr. Mangi has been subjected to “scrutiny unlike anything I have ever seen.”
Democrats said in their statement that Mr. Mangi was subjected to irrelevant, combative lines of questioning about the Israel-Hamas war and even asked how he celebrated the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks despite unequivocally denouncing any acts of antisemitism or bigotry. The American Jewish Committee, the National Council for Jewish Women, and a coalition of 15 Jewish organizations have all endorsed his historic nomination, according to the American Jewish Committee and the National Council for Jewish Women.
Democrats also address the “false claims” about Mr. Mangi’s association with AFJ.  ,
According to the Democratic press release,” Senate Republicans have peddled false claims that Mr. Mangi represented” cop killers,” when he has never said or written anything that suggests he supports such individuals or represented or provided legal counsel to anyone accused of killing a police officer.” Senate Republicans are, in fact, casting a double standard on this subject after unanimously confirming several judges who had previously personally represented” cop killers” during the Trump Administration.
Democrats go on to call the accusations baseless and “blatantly Islamophobic”.
