Poll Shows Larry Hogan With Double-Digit Lead Over Democrats in Maryland Senate Race

In a poll released on Wednesday, former governor of Maryland Larry Hogan ( R. ) leads his potential Democratic foes by double digits in the state’s Senate race. &nbsp,

Hogan would win the seat that was left vacant by retiring Sen. Ben Cardin ( D., Md. ) if the election were held today. ), defeating Democratic ally Rep. David Trone ( Md. ) and state director Angela Alsobrooks, according to a poll conducted by the Washington Post-University of Maryland. Hogan led Trone 49 percent to 37 percent and Alsobrooks 50 percent to 36 percent in the surveys, which queried 1, 004 registered Maryland voters this quarter.

The former Republican governor, who took office in January 2023 with higher approval ratings, is more well-known in the condition than his two Democratic competitors, despite Maryland citizens ‘ 20-point majority declaring they would want Democrats to control the Senate. &nbsp,

More than three out of five Maryland voters have favorable opinions of Hogan, according to the poll results, compared to only 33 percent for Trone and 26 % for Alsobrooks. About half of registered voters have no mind of either Democrat member.

The main concern for the Democrats right now is that some people in the state are unaware of either candidate’s identity, according to Professor Michael Hanmer, chairman of the University of Maryland’s research center that conducted the surveys.

“]Trone and Alsobrooks ] seem to be doing fine in the places where people know them”, Hanmer added. ” But large, large numbers of people do n’t know who they are. … It’s just around the corner now for the main, but there’s still plenty of time for both of them to accomplish things differently”.

The Wednesday surveys came after an Emerson College poll last month showed Hogan with a slight advantage over Alsobrooks—44 percentage to 37 percent—but on par with Trone at 42 percentage. &nbsp,
