EL PASO, TX ( KFOX14 ) — El Paso County’s Sheriff’s Office said it is preparing for a budget crunch as SB4, the Texas law aimed at detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants, makes illegal entry a state crime.
The County is required to keep state prisoners, which the Coroner’s office said may produce a crisis.
” We could see an flow in our prison, which inevitably gets passed off to our citizens”, said El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Commander Ryan Urrutia. There is no funding for this bill’s protection or prison.
Urrutia claimed SB4 may reduce the number of federal prisoners held by his company, which is a significant source of funding.
Because of our excellent relationship with the federal government, which helps to offset our funds, Urrutia said,” That’s an concern for our society as well.”
One of the inc- writers of SB4 spoke to KFOX14 to drive back on competitors ‘ says.
According to State Rep. David Spiller, there is about$ 2 billion worth of what we did for border protection in our appropriations bill and the supplemental appropriations bill that can be repurposed for reimbursement accounts. ” We have the ability then because those resources have already been appropriated, and passed by the legislature. They’re accessible”.
Due to SB4, which allows workers detained to freely return to the border, Spiller said he believes the laws may reduce county jail potential.
I think that ultimately, this will result in less confinement, rather than more prison. Human Nature says, given the choice, do you want to get in jail or prison? Or do you not? I choose no? Most people, in my opinion, do.
Spiller even refuted allegations that the SB4’s opponents may cause racial discrimination.
He claimed that the act contains explicit speech that prohibits racial profiling and requires law enforcement to have proof of an improper border crossing to stop people.
Individually, Mexico has said it did not take illegal immigrants brought to the country’s doorstep.
