U. S. Sen. Ted Cruz says solving the emigration conflict along the border is” no longer a struggle between Republican and Democrat”.
” This is a struggle between sanity and pitcher nonsense crazy”, he told visitors Saturday night at the Smith County Republican Club’s Presidents Dinner at Hollytree Country Club in Tyler.
Cruz, the young Republican U. S. senator from Texas, spoke on a number of problems Saturday, including his election campaign against Democratic U. S. Rep. Colin Allred.
Immigration
Cruz referenced evidence this past year by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
He said Mayorkas was n’t able to answer Cruz’s question about how many migrants died in 2022 crossing into the country illegally.
That amount was 853, according to Cruz.
” But you do n’t care enough about the dead bodies”, he said. ” When I’m down there and I see Texas farmers and ranchers who show me photograph after photograph of dead bodies they find on their farms and ranches”.
He said he even asked Mayorkas about drug overdose deaths in perspective of fentanyl being smuggled across the border.
” The amount was over 100, 000″, Cruz said Mayorkas responded. ” By the way, the highest in past. To put that in view: In the whole Vietnam War, America lost really over 60, 000 Americans”.
Cruz said the Biden presidency has flown 320, 000 unlawful immigrants into the United States—” they’re not really coming across the boundary”.
” Biden is literally flying them from Venezuela from Haiti to 43 various U. S. places. “, he said. ” They wo n’t tell us what cities they are”.
Election plan
Cruz said his biggest challenge to reelection in November is complacency, adding that people assume Texas is a Republican state and do n’t vote.
During his last election campaign in 2018, Democratic opponent Beto O’Rourke outspent and outraised him three to one. Political turnout in Texas more than doubled from 1.8 million to 4 million.
” I won by 200, 000 seats out of more than 8 million votes cast in Texas”, Cruz said. ” I gotta tell you, East Texas in certain played an incredibly important element”.
Six years ago, Cruz went on a 50- prevent bus tour focusing on West Texas, the Panhandle and East Texas. He recounts the Dallas Morning News asking why he was going to those sites.
In the past, numerous small- city Texans stayed home during away- cycle elections. Cruz said this would result to provincial officers being decided by voters in Travis County.
Cruz said Allred is outraising O’Rourke.
” This battle is a fight to keep Texas, Texas, to justify who we are”, he said. ” I love being in East Texas because of the beliefs that are here. Common sense, difficult work, personal responsibility, home, truth, integrity. Those are the beliefs that build Texas. If our nation could adopt the principles of East Texas, our country would be in much substantially better condition”.
He encouraged Smith County Republicans to talk to their neighbors, fellow church members and family members who do n’t vote.
He also encouraged people to keep using their tones.
” I’m delighted to the republicans in this room”, Cruz said. ” Every one of you makes a difference every day, and I want to encourage you to keep standing up, keep speaking out”.
Another elected leaders at Saturday’s function were U. S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran, R- Tyler, position Sen. Bryan Hughes, R- Mineola, Daniel Alders, Texas House District 6 Republican nomination, and Smith County Republican Chairman David Stein.
