A team of development workers who were on Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge when it collapsed Tuesday night were immigrants from Central America, leaders confirmed, and described as “hard- working, polite men”.
At about 1: 30 a. m. ET, a ship fleet, departing from Baltimore’s Internal Harbor, the Singaporean vessel dubbed Dali, lost power and collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, a 1.6- mile- much structure spanning Maryland’s Patapsco River. The bridge collapsed into the river after the collision, which was a total fundamental failure, as was witnessed in several videos and photos shared on social media.
At the time of the decline, an eight- male building crew had been among those on the gate, working to update potholes. Just two of the men have been discovered so far, according to what is believed to have fallen into the ocean below.
At a press conference held about five days after the collapse, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace stated that” we are still very much in an effective search and rescue pose” and will continue to do so. We need to search a lot of land.

The crew’s work on the gate was confirmed by the Maryland Transportation Authority in a speech. Before switching to a different gate, Jesus Campos of the outsourcing firm Brawner Builders had been working an overnight change on the gate, and he also spoke out about the missing people. He said that they were newcomers formerly from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico, who now reside in Dundalk and Highlandtown. Campos claimed they came to Baltimore to offer a better life to the lost gentlemen, who were all in their 30s and 40s, with spouses and children at home.
” They are all difficult- working, polite men”, Campos said.
The Maryland Transportation Authority was contacted by Newsweek for post via email on Tuesday.
President Joe Biden stated in a speech about the terrible tragedy that he expects Congress to fall behind in order to pay for the costs associated with the bridge reconstruction.
Biden stated,” It’s my goal that the federal government will cover the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge.” ” And I expect Congress to help my work… We’re gonna spend to get the bridge altered and reopened”.
According to Patrick Penfield, a teacher of supply chain process at Syracuse University, the disruption to Baltimore’s interface had cost roughly$ 9 million per day as a result of the decline.
