The ability of the people to communicate truth to power
New Rochelle, N. Y.: The Daily News is certainly the most independent newspapers in the area. The people who make these claims can be seen in their tremendous variety and love. Numerous things are challenged, whether it’s jigsaw puzzles with inadequate length or write quality or the evil that lurks in world leaders ‘ hearts and minds. All are accepted by The News and, I may surmise, the audience.
We are under pressure from failures in our management of the world’s resources, angry warmongers who have the most powerful weapons of mass destruction, and the veniality and vulnerability of our own leaders, whether nationwide or local. The world is constantly in a state of unrest. However, what is still blessed with pride and worth of soul, mind and spirit? In my watch, God, state and the tones of our people who stand up for their ideas and companions, and for what is just right. The next seems plausible, but can be open to change.
The Daily News ‘ Voice of the People is a potent example of good citizen and society. The Voicers, who I saw in the March 23 issue of The News, are the best illustrations of audio populi, a multi-faceted collection of insightful ideas ranging from a contemporary Greek poet to social commonsense.
The classics — Jimmy Breslin, Pete Hamill and some — certainly beamed down their lights from below. There will be more tomorrow. Warren Gross
Deterrence
Naples, Fla.: I am afraid at what NYC has become. Turntile jumpers have owed$ 69 million to the MTA only this past year. So, let’s install new gates at$ 700, 000 per station to help resolve this, along with a$ 15 entry charge for vehicles below 60th St. I have a answer: Arrest the suffer- beaters. Good them or prison them up to 14 weeks. Obvious permits, recover weapons, and create the transport system safer all of which are funded by outdated tax dollars. If you do n’t, the crooks will make jumping the new gates a whole new TikTok challenge. Michael Calabria
Public accounting
Staten Island: Please, I beg you, is somebody tell me where all the money from the crimson light monitors goes? How much does the vendor get paid, and how much does NYC get paid? Is it employed for the city’s great? God only knows, and the public will never get a right answer. Michael Modafferi
Politicians and buy
Yonkers: How many more innocents may be murdered, mugged and mauled by macabre, recidivist thugs and emotionally sick individuals, none of whom belong unrestrained on the streets of New York City and condition, before the remaining- wing Democrats restore law and order? We now have a fresh police agent, Jonathan Diller, willfully killed by a job lawbreaker. From Gov. The heart of so many subjects splashes from their arms from Hochul, Speaker Carl Heastie, to Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Coulsey, and all those who continue to ignore the destruction and carnage caused by their years of criminal-coddling criminal fairness “reforms.” New Yorkers must remove those in public office who are currently putting this city and state on the verge of exile if they want this to change. Requiescat in pace, Officer Diller. James McCaffrey
Asset hunt
Brooklyn: While I was interested in reading the fascinating March 24 op-ed” Donald Trump and the sheriff,” which was written by Messrs. Neil Pedersen and Adam Pollock, I was left wondering how the N.Y. attorney general would be able to identify which LLCs are actually Trump’s assets so as to seize the membership interests “within days” of execution. I anticipate that the contest’s attempt to identify Trump’s unavoidable assets will be at least as enthusiastic as the one that led to the judgment in the first place. Stuart R. Lang
Fortunate son
Blairstown, N. J.: Trump’s father paid off a doctor to keep him out of the Army. It frequently occurred during the Vietnam era. My two cousins were kept out of the Army and Vietnam by an uncle and aunt who paid off a doctor in New Jersey. While in college, Trumpty Dumpty played golf and tennis every weekend. However, the Trumpster is now required to obey orders from Vlad the Impaler, the Commie who is murdering and inflicting thousands of injuries to his boss in Ukraine. Putin has a lot of dirt on the Trumpkin. But bone spurs — what bone spurs? Ron Cristi
Take better stock
Bronx: Voicer William Cook’s comments concerning my deciphering the MAGA enigma was a typical Trumpian response, a blindness to reality. Cook is in total denial of President Biden’s accomplishments concerning the economy: the lowest unemployment in 50 years, a booming stock market, a GDP beyond expectation, more than 100, 000 new manufacturing jobs, a bipartisan infrastructure program that will have a lasting effect on our economy for many years, and we finally produce our own computer chips. By increasing the price of medicine, Biden improved health in America. Yes, he could have done a better job at the border, but Trump and his MAGA followers do n’t want to solve this problem. A bill created by bipartisan senators was defeated because it would have benefitted Biden. What idiots! Gilbert M. Lane
Draw the line
Rockaway Point: Talk, talk, talk. Enough. Time for action, and close the damn borders. Congratulations to the governor of Texas for doing the right thing. It’s a disgrace that Americans are fearful. Regina Mangan
Boon, not boondoggle
Swarthmore, Pa.: While the rising number of immigrant apprehensions at the U. S. border with Mexico has sowed political division and in some cases xenophobia, there’s one place where almost everyone seems on the same positive page: Wall Street. According to a non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projection from last month, immigration will increase the country’s gross domestic product by$ 7 trillion over the next ten years. ” Immigration is not just a highly charged social and political issue, it is also a big macroeconomic one”, said Janet Henry, a global economist. She added that immigration has been a significant component of the U.S. growth story over the past two years and that no advanced economy has had the same impact as the U.S. Try to refute this pernicious myth with facts when someone tries to frighten someone about how immigrants are destroying our economy and stealing American jobs. Ken Derow
Top propagandist
Bronx: Once again you give Alan Dershowitz half a page in your paper (” Hamas turns Gaza’s hospitals into’ Hamaspitals,'” op- ed, March 21 )  , to support genocide against the Palestinians. Richie Nagan
Reign of terror
Marlboro, New Jersey: I’m so madly old and disgusted by all the critics who view Israel as the one who started this conflict. Hamas and all the ( Iran-backed ) terrorist organizations that want to rid the world of every Jew and Israel are, are, and always have been. If you do n’t know that, then you have your head so far up a canal. Hamas is on the verge of losing, but it is not done yet. With all the existing antisemite funding and support, they will regroup and become stronger. Instead of cowardly hiding among their people, using children, men, and women as human shields, why wo n’t they lay down their arms and offer to secede and give in? No! They think that in the name of Jewish genocide, they should sacrifice thousands of their own and cause the destruction of their cities! That’s the damn truth. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Howie Winick
Legal error
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a representative for Kew Gardens Hills, has demonstrated that she is a better mixologist than she is a law-abiding person. She asked businessman Tony Bobulinski to name a crime that would apply to President Biden. He made reference to the RICO statute, and she quickly warned him by remarking that it was a category and not a crime. So much for the dilettante. My sympathy for her residents in Queens and the Bronx. Phil Serpico
Root check
Massapequa Park, L. I.: Someone please check AOC’s hair roots to make sure she is not a natural blonde. If not, she just proved herself to be the dumbest woman in Congress. Raymond P. Moran
