Tuskegee University , may create a new journey school , in the slide, allowing students to teach on the area used by the Tuskegee Airmen, owing to$ 6.7 million in federal funding.
” This software will create opportunities for young pilots who dream of spending their lives soaring through the clouds – below and around the world” ,said , Charlotte P. Morris, the senator of , Tuskegee University, in a media release on Wednesday.
Morris credited Sen.  , Katie Britt , with securing the money. The senator met with school officials and visited the Tuskegee college yesterday to review the program’s programs.
The flight school will provide a bachelor’s degree in aviation technology, pending endorsement from the , Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, according to the media release.
The degree program may have two components: one that concentrates on aerodynamics, plane structures, and meteorology, and the other will offer flight instruction, enabling students to obtain their personal and business pilot certificates.
The class hopes to not only continue the tradition of excellence in aircraft set by the , Tuskegee Airmen , – the first Black flying system in , the United States , army who fought in World War II and were one of the most highly decorated units in the , Air Force , – but to also help with the government’s worsening pilot lack.
” Our Strategic Plan has specific objectives to identify academic programs in high demand for industry and for the workforce” ,said Dr.  , S. The university announced that it will begin the aircraft system with about 25 students and anticipates that number may rise to more than 200 in the near future.
” The most exciting part is the opportunity to teach our kids to be aircraft”, said Hargrove. ” In the history of General , Chappie James , and the Tuskegee Airmen, we will continue the tradition of excellence in Aviation”.
