Political Analyst Says Trump Should Appeal More to Moderates and Avoid Partisan Issues

Former US president Donald Trump has stated that he wants to “make both sides content” on the contraception debate, which raises the question of whether or not he is going along the remaining on some issues while standing up for the right on others.

President Trump stated in a recent interview on Fox News that it appears that people are swayed by the notion that pregnancy may be prohibited after 15 days, claiming that it might be a topic that would serve as a political unification for the nation.

” The number of weeks now, people are agreeing on 15]weeks ]”, he said. ” And I’m thinking in terms of that. And it’ll travel up to something that’s very affordable. But people are truly, yet hardliners are agreeing, seems to be, 15 days seems to be a quantity that people are agreeing at”.

The former president said the three main exceptions—for cases of rape, incest, or the life of the mother—are critical for Republicans to include in their laws, but he maintained that pregnancy is a condition problem and that the federal government may n’t get involved.

While supporting lifestyle throughout his presidency, some conservatives criticized President Trump for criticizing the governor of Florida. The former president called Ron DeSantis ‘ six-week abortion ban in a September interview with NBC News ‘ Kristen Welker” a terrible mistake.”

He was panned by political commentators such as Liz Wheeler, who argued that he should n’t cater to the left by becoming a centrist.

” His best move is and always will be to be based and savage,” she wrote on X. I aspire to observe his “waste”

However, Mike Shedlock, an financial analyst and social commentator, told The Epoch Times that moderate voters are the key audience for President Trump.

    Appealing to the Centrists

Both President Joe Biden and President Trump are making” a great error” by no appealing more to confused citizens in the middle, according to Mr. Shedlock.

” Both Trump and Biden are ignoring the people who are going to decide the election, which are the undecided voters, the independents, and the moderates who do n’t like either of them”, he said.

In President Trump’s pursuit, President Biden has alienated more reformers, and a possible recession stemming from his” Green New Deal” economic guidelines by the time of the vote was get” the nail in the coffin” for President Biden’s second word, Mr. Shedlock said.

He claimed that” Biden is telling people that they are better off today than they were under Trump, which they know is a lie.”

As it stands, Mr. Shedlock said it appears President Trump will win the vote.

However, he said,” I would like to see him alter the manner in which he’s going about it.”

According to Mr. Shedlock, the issues he may avoid are those that he and his election blocs now support, such as pregnancy and whether the Jan. 6 accused should be pardoned.

Brand- calling is n’t doing President Trump any benefits sometimes, Mr. Shedlock said.

Trump’s continued use of the term “nikki haley birdbrain” has a “negative gain,” he said, adding that the former leader is critique Ms. Haley’s hawkish foreign policy positions without offending her erstwhile supporters by demeaning her cleverness.

President Trump has also often called Mr. DeSantis” Ron DeSanctimonious”. Mr. DeSantis and Ms. Haley could have helped President Trump’s campaign, Mr. Shedlock said.

However, those relationships are “probably too poisoned at this point”, he added.

    Social Security

On the issue of Social Security, President Trump has stated that Republicans should n’t” cut a single penny”, which Mr. Shedlock said aligns with Democrat President Joe Biden’s view.

By 2032, Social Security could be cut by 20 percent in annual benefits for the program’s recipients, according to a 2023 report from the Congressional Budget Office.

” People say Social Security is going to run out of money”, Mr. Shedlock said. ” That’s actually false. Social Security will eventually run out of the money to pay the same benefits they have been receiving, so cuts are coming by 2032 if we do n’t do anything. It’s odd that both Trump and Biden both admitted they wo n’t touch it.

    Affordable Care Act

Mr. Shedlock said he believes President Trump “has given up on trying to get rid of Obamacare”, which he said is a mistake.

President Trump stated on Truth Social on March 27 that he is” not running to terminate the ACA,” referring to the Affordable Care Act, former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.

In the post, President Trump said he’s running to make the ACA more affordable, end the border crisis, and stop inflation. Additionally, he claimed that Biden had ruined the economy.

President Trump is” just one step away from repealing the Affordable Care Act,” according to a March 23 post on President Biden’s X account. The post added: &nbsp,” Now, he’s determined to try again, running to ‘ terminate’ it—and cut Medicare and Social Security while he’s at it. I wo n’t let that happen”.

According to Mr. Shedlock, President Trump should still be concerned about health care, especially now that” states are getting hammered” with an influx of illegal immigrants who are flooded the hospital systems, using Medicaid to the point where citizens have to be turned away.

The Denver Health hospital system reported in a 2023 article that the migrant crisis had caused it to reach” a critical point.”

In 2022, it was reported that the 8, 000 migrants who arrived in Denver visited the hospital up to 20, 000 times.

The hospital system was denied reimbursement for the$ 136 million in medical expenses by the federal emergency management agency despite the report’s claim that the agency refused to pay the patient.

Donna Lynne, the system’s CEO, stated that Denver Health is” taking patients away every day, particularly in the areas of mental health and substance abuse.”

” While I have tremendous compassion for what’s going on—it’s heartbreaking—it’s going to break Denver Health”, Ms. Lynne said.

Free Health Care for Illegal Immigrants

All candidates in a Democratic presidential primary debate pledged to provide free health insurance to illegal immigrants.

Democrat candidate Pete Buttigieg—then mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and now secretary of the U. S. Department of Transportation—spoke first on the stage about why he believed illegal immigrants were entitled to free health care.

” Our country is healthier when everybody is healthier”, he said. Remember that we’re talking about something that people are interested in. In the same way that there are undocumented immigrants in my community who pay—they pay sales taxes, they pay property taxes, directly or indirectly—this is not about a handout. 11 million undocumented people in our country are unable to access health care because this is an insurance program, which is unfair.

President Biden, who was then still a candidate, also defended this position.

” You cannot let people who are sick, no matter where they come from, no matter what their status, go uncovered”, he said. ” You ca n’t do that. It will simply be handled. Period. You have to. It’s the humane thing to do”.

According to President Biden, he said he hoped that putting illegal immigrants in the country’s healthcare system would save money for everyone.

By being treated immediately rather than waiting until they are in extreme condition, they would do the same, according to President Biden.

President Trump responded to this on X, saying,” How about taking care of American citizens first!?” That’s the end of that race”!

    Obamacare Shafts Cancer Survivor

Scott Lunsford, a 53-year-old bone cancer survivor, told The Epoch Times in a recent interview that seeing the candidates raise their hands in support of free medical care for illegal immigrants was what caused him to leave the Democratic Party.

Mr. Lunsford claimed that because of how Democrats had pushed for ACA, he was a moderate voter who voted for President Obama in 2008.

Despite claims that he could keep his plan and doctor, neither of these claims actually materialized.

At the age of 36, Mr. Lunsford had already endured two bouts of cancer and needed his arm removed during the second round.

He re-voted for President Obama in hopes that the ACA would fulfill its promises, but after its implementation in 2010″ the wheels just started falling off.”

Before ACA, his monthly insurance plan was$ 185 with a$ 1, 000 deductible. However, that policy was canceled because it no longer met the ACA requirements.

The cheapest option available under the new law was a$ 1, 200 monthly plan with a$ 6, 000 deductible, he reported.

He claimed that while his wife made$ 10 per hour trying to support a family of five, he was pursuing an disability application.

” We had a hard decision to make”, he said. ” Do we go ahead and get this more expensive insurance, or do we feed our children”?

Of course, he said, they chose to keep their children fed and clothed, but consequentially, he went 10 years without health insurance, even though a doctor had told them that he needed to be checked every six months for a reoccurrence of cancer.

Then, he was taxed annually for not having insurance, he said.

Every time Democratic candidates appeared on stage and campaigned about how our healthcare system was broken, he said,” but they all voted for this.”

He claimed he had to “wash his hands of the Democratic Party” when he saw the candidates ‘ calls for free health care for illegal immigrants.

I was done with them, so they could sit there and gloat about how they would provide illegals insurance while taking my, not allowing me to have those tests be done to ensure my cancer did n’t return, and then punish me for it. For the first time in my eyes, I started to see clearly.

In order to appeal to moderates like him, Mr. Lunsford said that President Trump would be wise to choose a vice president candidate like Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat congresswoman who left the Democratic Party in 2022 to become an Independent.

” I think she would make a great candidate”, Mr. Lunsford said. ” She’s young and she was in the military”.

As a moderate, Mr. Lunsford said he sees “low- hanging fruit in the middle”.

” That’s why I think his vice president selection is so important”, he said.

    Obamacare Still an Issue

Shedlock expressed surprise that President Trump is n’t speaking up about Obamacare because it’s still a problem.

” There were 10 states that did not fall for the Medicaid expansion trap under Obamacare”, he said. ” All the rest are suffering”.

In a post on his blog, Mish Talk, Mr. Shedlock wrote that Medicaid ca n’t cover hospital costs, which increases the cost for private payers.

” In expansion states, hospitals ‘ Medicaid shortfalls have reached$ 22.3 billion, increasing by 117 percent since 2013″, he said. ” If non- expansion states were to expand, their hospitals ‘ Medicaid shortfalls would more than double, from$ 6.3 billion to$ 13.2 billion”.

He added that those states that refused to expand Medicaid, such as Mississippi, Texas, and Florida,” should continue to say no to Medicaid expansion”.

” These shortfalls are really bad and they’re going to get worse because of illegal immigrants”, Mr. Shedlock said.

    Economic Repercussions

Who wins this election has significant repercussions on the economic front, according to Mr. Shedlock.

President Biden’s “highly inflationary” policies do n’t bode well for the future and are already “disastrous”, he said.

“Economists are cheering right now because they think we’ve fixed inflation, but I’m looking at what’s coming down the pike”, he said. This is only a pause before the following round.
