A group of activists decided to destroy the Easter celebration at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City on Saturday night after hundreds of pro-Palestine followers gathered in Times Square on Saturday day.
Protesters could be seen unveiling a banner as they chanted “free, completely Palestine” during the company. Shortly afterward, a group of churchgoers quickly rose up and began to actually reduce the protesters from the building.
According to a report from the New York Post, at least some of the activists were affiliated with the Israeli Solidarity party of the climate change movement Extinction Rebellion NYC. They wore a sign that read “SILENCE=DEATH” across it before being led up.
Earlier in the day, dozens of pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered in Times Square as part of the country’s “land time” rallies.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called for peace in the Middle East and the close of Gaza in a statement released before Holy Week. We are connected to the very source of hope as the Church approaches Holy Week, the statement read,” and Christ’s struggling on the bridge and his resurrection are made to us but vividly.”
The meeting has condemned the targeting of citizens on both sides since the fight began in the midst of the October 7 assaults. ” Hundreds of innocent people have died in this fight, and thousands more have been displaced and experience great suffering”, the statement continued.
” This must stop”.
