Physicians at the , Xijing Hospital , of , Air Force Military Medical University , in , Xi’an,  , Shaanxi , state, successfully transplanted a pig’s heart into a client. As of Thursday, the heart has functioned for around 96 days, breaking the previous record.
After a nine-hour operation, doctors transplanted the whole kidney of a multi-genit pig into a brainless patient. During the procedure, the heart began secreting venom after bloodstream flow was restored, and no hyperacute refusal was observed, according to the school’s Twitter account on Thursday.
Tao , Kaishan, chairman of the patient’s hepatological operation office, said the transplanted heart has shown excellent liver production, bloodstream supply and compulsive results, surpassing the team’s expectations.
Dou Kefeng, an anthropologist at the , Chinese Academy of Sciences , and a teacher at the doctor’s kidney and liver operation office, said the case showed that a pig’s liver may be able to change a human’s.
It represents a major advance in science and a major step in the direction of xenogeneic liver transplantation, according to Dou.
China , has about 400 million people with heart disease, with 300, 000 to 500, 000 new instances of heart failure each month. For kidney failure, liver transplant is the only successful therapeutic process, but in fact, many people lose their lives because they cannot wait for a heart donation, specialists said.
