A union leader said on Tuesday that factory workers at Mercedes Benz’s assembly plant in Alabama are moving forward with petitions to join the United Auto Workers ( UAW ) and plan to file one as soon as this week.
Tim Smith, the government’s Region 8 producer, claimed he had been speaking with UAW President Shawn Fain in Alabama two weeks ago as Mercedes workers were gearing up for a coalition election complaint.
At a rally in North Carolina to begin negotiations over a contract with Daimler Truck, Mr. Smith said,” We’re delighted of them and they’re going to get as well.”
