Presidential candidate problems promise after backdescribing the Jan. 6 accused.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. vowed on April 5 to appoint a special counsel, if he’s elected leader, to evaluate whether lawyers bringing cases against citizens over the Jan. 6, 2021, violation of the U. S. Capitol have abused their strength.
” Like many fair Americans, I am concerned about the possibility that social goals motivated the strength of the trial of the J6 accused, their longer words, and their harsh treatment. That would suit a shocking structure of the weaponization of government companies… against political competitors”, Mr. Kennedy said in a statement.
One can reject Donald Trump and everything he stands for, and still be stung by the use of force against him by the state, as I do. I’ll appoint a special counsel, a person who is well-known on all sides, to look into whether legal discretion was abused for social purposes in this case, and I’ll make any corrections that we can find.
Mr. Kennedy’s remarks came after his promotion disavowed a fundraising message that described Jan. 6 accused as protesters.
The message, sent on April 4, was headlined by a telephone for money to help Mr. Kennedy “expose the heavy condition” and “free Julian Assange”, the Wikileaks leader who has been charged by U. S. authorities, media outlets reported. Additionally, it made mention of Edward Snowden, a former builder for the US National Security Agency who exposed the agency’s improper spying.
Every American citizen faces this truth, including J6 protesters imprisoned in a Washington, D.C. jail cell and Ed Snowden, who have been denied their constitutional rights. Choose assist our plan in blatantly demonizing our own government, the message urged.
Mr. Kennedy’s plan said that the part of the internet referring to Jan. 6 accused should not have been sent out.
” That speech was an inaccuracy that does not represent Mr. Kennedy’s views. A new advertising company placed it in and it passed the standard approval procedure, a campaign spokesperson told The Epoch Times via internet.
The vendor, who the campaign claims it did n’t want to be identified, is named as the vendor in its contract termination.
” Anybody who violated the law on Jan. 6 should be subject to appropriate criminal and/or civil penalties”, the spokesperson added.
Mr. Kennedy, 70, is running in the 2024 presidential election as an independent after being stymied by Democrats who are supporting President Joe Biden’s re- election bid.
Matt Corridoni, a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee, stated in a statement that Mr. Kennedy’s disavowed statement” captures his views perfectly.”
Anyone who has followed RFK Jr.’s candidacy should not be surprised by his claims that he is a greater threat to democracy than Donald Trump, that he is being supported by his biggest supporter, and that Steve Bannon has praised him. What is surprising is that RFK Jr. and his supporters think that everyone would be foolish enough to turn the other way when he makes more MAGA talking points, Mr. Corridoni said. Mr. Bannon is a former adviser to President Trump, who has used the campaign slogan” Make America Great Again”, or MAGA.
Additionally, Mr. Kennedy added that many defendants on January 6 allegedly broke the law, but he was unsure whether the riot was an insurrection. He claimed he was “making sense of the event and what followed” by listening to people with different viewpoints on the situation.
In addition, Mr. Kennedy has previously stated that he would consider pardoning some of the people who were accused of breaking the law if he wins the election.
Additionally, Mr. Kennedy has stated that he would never forgive Mr. Snowden for violating the Espionage Act and Mr. Assange for being attempting to extradite from London to the United States on suspicion of conspiracy and other crimes involving WikiLeaks ‘ alleged collusion with Russia.
” I would pardon people”, Mr. Kennedy said on Fox News. ” I intend to use the pardon power, and I intend to use it very quickly in office. I’m going to pardon Julian Assange. I’m going to pardon Edward Snowden. I may pardon Ross Ulbricht if I find that his prosecution was, that his sentence, his very lengthy sentence, was the result of making an example of him in order to punish Bitcoin and cryptocurrency”.
For managing Silk Road, a website that made it possible for users to purchase and sell drugs and other goods and services, Mr. Ulbricht is serving a life sentence.
During his one-term, former president Donald Trump claimed he was considering pardoning Mr. Snowden but never pardoned him. According to Mr. Assange, President Trump offered him a pardon in exchange for a statement claiming Russia had not hacked the Democratic National Committee. President Trump’s White House denied the claim.
People who are unable to cast ballots for President Trump or Biden and those who are unable to cast ballots for them have been playing plays played by Mr. Kennedy.
President Biden has repeatedly criticized those accused of breaking the law and has n’t indicated any desire to pardon them. President Trump has recently begun to question how defendants are treated, calling them “hostages,” and saying he would consider seeking pardons if he wins another term.
Some defendants who were detained on January 6 have been awaiting trial for months or even years. Some are currently in pretrial detention.
As of March 6, more than 1, 350 people have been charged in relation to the breach, including about a third who have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees. About 770 defendants have pleaded guilty, while 152 have been found guilty at trials. Of the roughly 860 defendants who have been sentenced, about 500 have been sentenced to jail time.
