According to a document speech seen by Bloomberg, the European Union and the United States intend to engage artificial knowledge in the research for replacements for the so-called forever chemicals that are used in semiconductor manufacturing.
The commitment forms part of the inferences to this week’s combined U. S. EU Trade and Technology Council taking position in Leuven, Belgium.
We intend to look for new ways to collaborate with researchers to find alternatives to the use of per- and polyfluorinated substances ( PFAS ) in chips, the statement reads. ” For instance, we intend to look into the use of AI powers and digital twins to make it easier to find suitable materials to remove PFAS in semiconductor manufacturing,” it says.
PFAS, often known as long substances, have been at the centre of concerns over waste in both the U. S. and Europe. They are used in a wide range of industrial applications, but they also appear in our bodies, in food and water sources, and, as their moniker suggests, do n’t disintegrate for very long.
Separately, the document speech confirms earlier reports from Bloomberg regarding EU plans to work with the U.S. to examine the security threat of so-called “old-fashioned chips” in its supply chains.
Legacy electronics are considered to be intelligent or lower-end chips and are crucial to the global market. There are problems on both sides of the Atlantic that China has invested in companies to boost offer, which could cause market distortion or relationships.
The document speech states that” we intend to, as appropriate, continue to gather and share non-confidential information and business intelligence about non-market policies and practices, undertake to consulting each other on planned steps, and may develop joint or cooperative steps to tackle distortionary results on the global supply chain for tradition electronics.”
The Euro and the United States will work together on an early-warning process to identify supply chain disruptions for a more three times as part of the TTC, as well as a tool for sharing information on common support provided to the semiconductor industry.
