Dawn Staley, the mind basketball coach for the South Carolina Women, praised the idea of people competing in women’s sports if they identify as trans.
Before her group’s Final Four game against North Carolina State, Outkick reporter Dan Zaksheske posed the question to Staley. ” You simply talked on, you know, what a massive trip this is clearly for women’s sports, children’s sports in general. One of the major concerns facing children’s sports right now is the conversation, conversation matter about the participation of transgender athletes, biological males in women’s sports”, Zaksheske noted.  ,
When questioned about whether genetic female athletes should compete against female competitors, Staley paused briefly before responding. ” If you’re a woman, you may play”, the two- day national champion manager ultimately replied.
Do you believe that trans women should be able to play baseball in school? Zuksheske followed up.
Staley rushed to say that the answer is “yes” without much thought.
” That’s the problem you want me to inquire. I mean, you want to inquire, but I’ll give you that yes”, she said. ” So now the fizzer people are going to flood my timeline and distract me during one of our game’s biggest time. And I’m fine with that, and I’m fine with that. I actually am”.
Staley has generally weighed in on national social issues throughout her time as the head coach of the Gamecocks.
After winning the 2017 national finals, the team turned down proposal from then-President Donald Trump. Additionally, Sleevey has used her push events to condemn the original president on numerous occasions, most recently during the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.
