In an effort to save money, Spirit Airlines will fire 260 pilots in September as the airline delayed requests for some of its aviation by about five years.
According to a media release from the airport on April 8, Spirit and aerospace company Airbus reached an agreement to postpone all aircraft purchases that are “scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2025 through the close of 2026 to 2030–2031.” The decision was taken to strengthen the company’s financial status. Spirit announced plans to “furlough about 260 pilots successful Sept. 1, 2024″ as a result of the aircraft deferral and engine accessibility issues.
