In order to resolve a class action lawsuit involving the 2023 incident in East Palestine, Ohio, Northrop Southern Corporation announced on Tuesday that it had reached a$ 600 million settlement.
The lawsuit comes in the wake of the Feb. 3, 2023 event in which a Norfolk Southern Railway cargo train carrying 151 vehicles derailed, spilling toxic chemicals, including rubber salt, onto the surface and into the air.
Additionally, burning rubber salt results in a small amount of chlorine gas, which was used as a molecular weapons on World War I soldiers. When 38 of the rail cars derailed, a hearth ensued, damaging an additional 12 vehicles.
Of the 20 cars carrying dangerous substances, 11 derailed, according to the National Transportation Safety Board….
