Liberals also used campaign contributions to give President Joe Biden’s attorneys during the special counsel investigation into his handling of classified records, according to Forbes, despite criticizing former president Donald Trump for using campaign funds to pay his enormous legal costs.
According to the DNC’s economic papers, the Democratic National Committee paid over$ 1.5 million to doctors or corporations that represented Biden during the classified records investigation between July 2023 and February 2024, according to the outlet’s financial files. The Biden plan has recently criticized Trump for using campaign funds for legal expenses, while claiming that “every penny” raised for the Biden- Harris plan is used for “talking to voters.”
Last weekend, Biden Campaign Finance Chair Rufus Gifford said,” Every penny you give to the Biden-Harris re-election plan, we spend talking to citizens.”
” What is]Trump ] doing? He may raise some money now at a closed-door charity in Palm Beach with his billionaire friends. We understand that”, Gifford continued, adding. We do n’t pay legal expenses. We are certainly selling golden shoes or any of that. The income that we are raising, we are going directly to talking to citizens”.
Biden- Harris Finance Chair @rufusgifford: Every single time you give to the battle, we’re going right to talk to citizens, with 100 agencies close in bounce states, hundreds of thousands of calls to voters. We are never putting money into legal costs or selling golden shoes. twitter.com/AY9qYtQ0L0

Turns out, Democrats have also spent a lot of money covering the leader during his own legal battles. The DNC paid just over$ 1 million to Bob Bauer PLLC, the professional limited liability company of Biden’s top lawyer, from July of last year through February 2024. Additionally, beginning in July 2023, the DNC increased monthly payments to the Hemenway &, Barnes law firm from$ 15, 000 a month to$ 100, 000 a month during special counsel Robert Hur’s probe into Biden.
During Hur’s inspection, which eventually led to no fees, the DNC did not reveal how much it had spent on legal costs for Biden. Hur found that Trump “willfully retained and disclosed defined materials”, but did not suggest bringing any charges, in part, because a jury may view Biden as” a friendly, properly- meaning, old man with a bad memory”.
In 2021, the Republican National Committee collected about$ 1.6 million to cover some of Trump’s legal expenses as a result of the civil business fraud case. At the time, a DNC spokeswoman told The New York Times,” If we were the RNC’s donors, we would certainly be asking questions”.
Trump’s$ 100 million legal bills, excluding the$ 175 million bond he recently posted in his New York civil business fraud case, are paltry. The Biden campaign has jumped out of the lead as Trump deals with the mounting fees, but a reportedly$ 50 million haul from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago fundraiser event last Saturday brings him closer to the Biden campaign’s numbers.

The president has poked fun at his rival’s legal fees, quipping last month,” Just the other day, a defeated- looking guy came up to me and said,’ Mr. President, I need your help. I’m being crushed with debt. I’m completely wiped out.’ I had to say,’ Donald, I ca n’t help you.'”
