I do n’t mean to pick on Symone Sanders Townsend.
The Trip co-host of MSNBC’s The Trip has exposed a shocking knowledge gap for the next time in as many months.  ,
Next week, we caught Symone accusing Donald Trump, in his annual address, of “promising destruction”. In reality, he promised to” quit” destruction, of the kind that keeps “mothers and children trapped in poverty in our internal places”.
In a sector now dedicated to trashing third-party individuals because it is likely that they will accept Biden’s support, Sanders revealed that she is unfamiliar with the way that Electoral College votes are distributed. Smith:
” I think today more than any of our history new elections, that next- party candidates are a real, correct threat to Joe Biden, but also to 270, period. Our Constitution says, to be the President of the United States, you have to get 270 Electoral College votes. No 269, not that lot laws all… Then, what if Joe Biden is denied 270? Or Donald Trump? Well, according to the 12th Amendment, the House gets to pick who the president is” . ,
Sanders misses the point that whoever receives a majority of the popular vote wins all of the country’s Electoral College votes, with the exception of Nebraska and Maine. So long as either Trump or Biden received more votes than any other member, they would receive all of the state’s electoral votes [or the political vote in the Nebraska or Maine region, regardless of whether a third-party member denied them an absolute majority in a given state]or in one of Nebraska or Maine’s political regions.
Therefore, Sanders ‘ nightmare scenario would only come about if one of the candidate’s third-party individuals actually won a position, or one of the towns in Nebraska or Maine. And not even the most ferocious conspiracy-mongers have suggested that RFK, Jr., allow only Cornel West or Jill Stein, have any chance of achieving such a mystery.
So Symone you rest easy. However, it would be really helpful for her to research the subjects on offer before next year’s present!
Note: Steele told Symone that there would n’t be a problem “if the Democrats win the House in November”. That’s not always accurate. Per the 12th Amendment,” More than voting separately, House people vote as state representatives. A candidate is elected president with the support of a majority ( 26 ) of state delegations after receiving just one vote.
So even if Democrats won the majority of House votes in November, it’s possible that Republicans would control more state representatives and have the authority to choose the leader. It’s called a” dependent vote”.
Here’s the record.

8: 19 am EDTJOE WALSH:]Third- celebration candidates are ] but dangerous.
MICHAEL STEELE: And it’s just, if enough of those folks to go to that position, to their happy area, where they can, where they think that that voting is going to do what?
SYMONE SANDERS TOWNSEND: Let me suggest this. Because I think that there is a, I think today more than any of our past new elections, that next- party candidates are a real, true threat to Joe Biden, but also to 270, period.  ,
Our Constitution says, to be the President of the United States, you have to win 270 Electoral College votes. Not 269, not that majority rules all. Now, the ballot access matters here, okay. So, RFK, Jr., Dr. West, Jill Stein. What does the ballot-access system resemble? RFK, Jr. is someone who is definitely–
STEELE: He’s on one state right now.  ,
SANDERS TOWNSEND: He just gained ballot access in North Carolina.  ,
STEELE: So it’s two states.
SANDERS TOWNSEND: Two. And that is a– that’s an issue. Because of this, margins are important. Now, what if Joe Biden is denied 270? Or Donald Trump?  ,
STEELE: It goes to the House.
SANDERS TOWNSEND: Well, according to the 12th Amendment, the House gets to pick who the president is. I just finished watching that Scandal episode the other day.
STEELE: Which version of the House? Is the new House or the existing House sworn in?
SANDERS TOWNSEND: It is the, tt is the new House.
STEELE: So if the Democrats win the House in November, you do n’t have a problem.
SANDERS TOWNSEND: Well, that means people have to vote down ballot.
STEELE: Well, there you go.
