AUGUSTA, Ga. ( AP ) — Tiger Woods walked off the third green at Augusta National on Saturday, having just missed a birdie putt he thought he should have made, and began striding up the hill toward the long par- 3 fourth hole at the Masters.
Little did he realize that things were about to get worse.
Along with his confident jump and skill of the spinach, Woods lost any hope of staying in disagreement. The five- day hero spent the rest of the day struggling to his worst round at a major championship,  , a 10- over 82 , that left Woods looking no just defeated but did push him to play , his 100th round at the Masters , on Sunday well out of the spotlight.
Woods claimed that he” just hit the ball wherever I know I should n’t hit it.”
He felt like he could make a work at Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, and the rest of the officials after taking seven shots off the guide on the first day. Before eight birdie and two twin birdie, which were offset by only two strokes, placed the 48-year-old Woods at the bottom of the ranking rather than the best.
It was only the second round Woods has shot in the 80s as a specialist, and only the second in a key. He shot an 80 in the first round of the 2005 U. S. Open at Chambers Bay and an 81 in the second round of the 2002 British Open at Muirfield.
His worst large as a pro came in 2015, when he shot an 85 in the second round of the Memorial.
” I have n’t competed and played much”, said Woods, who arrived this week having played just 24 holes of competitive golf this year. When I had the opportunity to flip it, I immediately three-putted six and flubbed a chip at seven, and when I had other opportunities to flip it, I did n’t.
Playing from the plants is difficult to turn.
Woods dumped his technique into the bunker and shot a triple bogey after his seventh-round tee shot bounded through the putt. At the seventh, he drove it into the plants, punched out and made another twice. And to cap off his worst initial nine at the Masters, Woods once more missed the putt off the tee, once more discovered a vault, and once more came apart with a birdie.
Woods made the turn in 6 over after that four-hole expand.
Things did n’t get any better over the next nine.
No. 1 had a bad fairway shot. 11 — birdie. The missed 6- foot at the 12th — bogey. at No. 1 into the branches. 14 — birdie. The split device at the 15th — birdie. The three- fairway at the 16th — birdie. Additionally, more trees difficulties at No. 17 — birdie.
At least playing companion Tyrell Hatton was sympathize. He four- putted the last hole.
” Sure, he did n’t hit it how he wanted to”, Hatton said,” but also like, putts that he had, the greens are so fast out there. You people, you do n’t recognize, even a 2 1/2- base putt is simply terrible. They’ve got thus far change. You start a inch outside of your starting collection, and it will lose. Who knows how far ahead it’s going to complete, depending on the rate you’ve hit it at?
After the first darkness that caused his starting round, Woods had to perform 23 holes and has had a difficult week. He not merely endured a workout morning, but he also shot a 72 on a second round in gusty conditions, making the cut for the 24th consecutive day at the Masters.
Woods had a strong short game, hitting 22 of 28 fairways in two rounds, and he was able to beat some bad approach shots ( only 17 of 36 greens in regulation ). He entered the third round in the top ten of this week.
What had been his strength, though, became his downfall Saturday. Woods had two three-putts, four of his own, and was left trying to get his body in shape before an early tee time on Sunday. He only hit four of thirteen fairways.
” My team will get me ready”, he said. ” It will be a long night and a long warm- up session, but we’ll be ready”.
