17 House Republicans are calling on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA ) to outlaw transgender athletes who were born in males from women’s sports.
New York Republican Rep. led the campaign to urge a complete ban on transgender “women” in school sports. Claudia Tenney, who said that runners born male have “natural benefits ” over people, Fox News reported.
In the letter Tenney and sixteen other legislators signed,” We are deeply concerned about the future of women’s activities and upholding the crucial Title IX protections for women’s activities.”
This approach correctly acknowledges the inherent advantages biological men have in some athletic competitions. A 2022 study entitled ‘Transwoman Elite Athletes: Their Extra Percentage Relative to Female Physiology ’ concluded that ‘many anatomical sex differences driven by testosterone are not reversible, ” the letter reads.
Further, this study found that transgender women may enter the adult division with an inherent advantage because of their previous male physiology because estrogen therapy does not reverse most sporty performance parameters. ’ The NCAA’s present transgender policy fails to get these scientific information into consideration, ” it continued.
The University of South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley made feedback in the email that were also brought up. Staley said she would encouraged men to play on the women’s basketball team at USC.
The lawmakers added that” this speech disregards the natural facts and may damage female athletes in NCAA-affiliated schools.” Forbidden by biological males to compete against biological women is just unfair. Additionally, allowing biological boys to play in women’s sports undermines crucial Title IX safeguards for women. ”
We therefore urge the NCAA to reconsider its existing policy, which allows biological men to prevent women from having a good chance to compete and attain athletic success. According to the letter, all people attending NCAA-affiliated institutions should not be concerned that biological males will devalue their athletic achievements.
The email also mentions the championships won by transgender “woman” Lia Thomas, who won many names from women at the NCAA swimming championships in 2022. The letter then makes note of the recent ban of its own on transgender women playing in women’s sports. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics ( NAIA ) then implemented a similar ban.
This is not acceptable to possibly occur afterwards. The NCAA must follow the NAIA’s lead and prohibit biological men from competing in women’s activities, ” they concluded.
