Google has fired 28 people for their participation in sit-in demonstrations at the firm ’s offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California, against Google’s$ 1. 2 billion deal signed with the Israeli military and the government.

The New York Post reports that Google has terminated 28 people for their involvement in sit-in protests at the firm ’s offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California. The protests, organized by the group “No Tech For Apartheid, ” were aimed at Google’s$ 1. The Israeli government and military are covered by a$ 2 billion” Project Nimbus” contract, in which Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services offer cloud computing and artificial intelligence services.

The protests took place on Tuesday, with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s private business occupying both the 10th floor of the company’s Manhattan office and the 10th ground of its Chelsea business. On Kurian’s board, some protesters wore traditional Muslim headscarves and put a list of their needs on the board. Prior to this, according to a report from Breitbart News, many Facebook employees were detained when they refused to leave the headquarters they were occupying.

In a companywide letter obtained by the Post, Google’s vice chairman of global surveillance, Chris Rackow, described the protesters ’ behaviour as “unacceptable, really destructive, and made co-workers feel threatened. ” He stated that the workers “took over business spaces, defaced our house, and literally impeded the function of various Googlers. ”

The company’s critics have expressed concerns that Palestinians in Gaza could be harmed by the technology provided by” Project Nimbus.” The fired employees, in a statement shared by No Tech For Apartheid director Jane Chung, accused Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian of being “genocide financiers, ” claiming that “their technology has enabled 100,000 Palestinians killed, reported missing, or wounded in the last six decades of Israel’s murder. ”

In addition, five protesters were detained and released in Sunnyvale for legal trespass, according to local law enforcement, and four arrests were made in New York for trespass. If all nine of the workers who were arrested were fired, it is still unclear.

A Google spokesman confirmed the firings, stating that the protests were a result of a “longstanding campaign by a group of organizations and people who largely do n’t work at Google.” The spokeswoman argued that “physically preventing additional personnel from accessing our features and physically preventing them from working is a clear violation of our policies, and entirely unacceptable habits.” ”
