SAN DIEGO ( Border Report ) — More than 80 percent of fire hydrants in Tijuana have been vandalized, don’t work or are obsolete, according to Rafael Carrillo Venegas, the city ’s fire department director.

He claims that there are 3,200 sprinklers in the area, the majority of which need to be replaced or malfunction.

Carrillo Venegas said, adding that some of the extinguishers have been awaiting company for 15 years, that we have not been able to create a great repair or replacement system for the extinguishers.

“That’s no our role, we can try to maintain them as a division, but maintenance or replacement is the duty of the common services office, but they don’t seemed to make any progress. ”

According to Carrillo Venegas, unreliable or inoperable sprinklers prevent their businesses in times of need.

“Often we come across extinguishers that don’t job, now we have to go looking for extinguishers in various districts, ” he said. Consider the disruptions and time that this causes when igniting fires. ”

Criminals who are looking for precious metals frequently break hydrants, according to the producer.

Some hydrants have metal, and once people find out, they vandalize another hydrants in the same location and demand that we replace them. ”

Another issue, according to Carrillo Venegas, is that hydrants have no water or have small force, something that the public services division also needs to handle.
