On Thursday, according to the New York Post, about 100 protesters who were participating in a pro-Palestinian activity camp on a Columbia University yard were “cuffed and hauled away ” by police in riot gear.
When police first entered the school, they warned protesters that if they did not leave, they would be detained. The officers next began detaining those who disregarded the orders, according to the Post, carrying sacks of flap ties.
The assault came after Columbia President Minouche Shafik authorized the officers behavior, saying in a letter to the NYPD that the demonstrators “interfered with the functioning of the University, refused to identify themselves, refused to evacuate, set up tents on school space, failed to comply with policies, and damaged campus property. ”
The continued campstill raises concerns for both the camp’s residents and the whole neighborhood in terms of security. ”
The University sent out numerous notices and warnings to the camp members, telling them to separate or be subject to immediate punishment. In addition to the issues they have raised, we have offered to have more discussions if they diverge, according to the letter.
Isra Hirsi, the girl of Minnesota Democrat Rep., was one of the activists. Ilhan Omar, a Muslim. Hirsi even received a suspension from the institution, she claimed in a blog on X.
I organize for the CU Apartheid Divest @ColumbiaSJP. During my three years at Barnard College, I have never been disciplined or given any administrative warnings.
I just learned that I am one of three kids suspended for standing with Palestinians who are facing a murder.

“Ms. Around 11:30 a.m., Hirsi posted on social media. m. on Thursday that she was one of three kids suspended so far for participating in the opposition, which began on Wednesday, the day the university’s leader … appeared before Congress to discuss racism on campus, ” the New York Times reported.
“…Ms. Hirsi, age 21, claimed on social media that she was a member of the pupil group that has been urging Columbia University to cut ties with businesses that support Israel. For withdrawal is the key requirement of protesters in the camp, ” the Times reported.
One day prior to Shafik’s condemnation of calling for the “genocide of Jews ” in her testimony before Congress, the camp was under siege.
During the hear, she was questioned by Rep. Omar.
Margie told Shafik she was “appalled” to learn that Columbia suspended six kids earlier this month for their participation in a campus-sponsored pro-Palestinian panel discussion, according to NBC.
Apparently, Omar claimed that there has recently been an attack on the political rights of students nationwide.
Individuals for Justice and Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace, two pro-Hamas student organizations, were suspended by Columbia next fall, but aggressive anti-Israel rallies have never stopped as a result.
As The College Fix previously reported, Jewish and pro-Israel Columbia kids “have reported being harassed, vilified, and assaulted, and [heard ] faculty make racist comments, especially since the Oct. 7 Hamas extremist attack on Israel. ”
“At the same time, pro-Palestinian groups at Columbia organized a class ‘walkout, ’ called for withdrawal from Israel, and advocated for the learner government to cancel an annual event in ‘solidarity ’ with their cause. ”
