After three other persons were robbed only moments off, a Chicago girl boldly defended herself from a suspected criminal on Wednesday by grabbing his gun close to her university’s school.
Madelyn, or “Maddi, ” 21, was walking home from her classes at the University of Chicago near 56th Street and South University just before 3:00 p. m. when a disturbing incident was uncovered on surveillance video when an military, masked man grabbed her phone.
I was just returning from school when a person in a face approached me, Maddi reported to ABC7. “And he kind of comes towards me and I think to myself, ‘just keep walking, ’ but then we have an encounter. ”
Before she could get hold of the attacker’s gun, take out the publication, and shove it into a bush, Maddi was tussling with him in the video:

However, a male witness was seated on the ground only feet away, watching the guy assault Maddi.
After Maddi threw the newspaper, the assume began moving towards her again, but she was able to run away.
The masked criminal then appeared to be looking for the publication before hopping into a dim-colored car that was outside, according to the local station.
I believe a fight broke out, but I’m not in any way opposed to resisting an armed assault. Looking back, I believe it was really not the wise choice, ” Maddi said. She’s just thankful that she was n’t hurt.
She also stated that she does n’t blame the campus or the bystander, and that the police did a “great job.” ”
The student continued, stating that she typically feels safe while walking through the school.” I think it’s really finding the people who did this harm, because they will do it once.
Only ten minutes prior to Maddi’s accosting, a similar incident occurred. According to the Chicago Police Department, four armed suspects demanded the stuff of two kids who were walking in the 5600 wall of South University.

According to ABC7, those defendants then entered a dark Infiniti sedan and left.
Finally, just five minutes later, two military suspects robbed another pupil in the 1300 block of East 56th Street. They escaped in a four-door dark car.
Fortunately, none of those students were literally injured.
Following the string of robberies, University of Chicago Police issued a declaration instructing students to remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times. If you must, do not reject an armed assault. ”
Avoid using mobile devices or other digital devices while driving. Try to walk with a party or have a buddy walk with you when you’re walking. There is safety in numbers, ” the statement said.
As of Friday, no arrests have been announced in relation to the thefts.
