House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) hailed Democrats ‘ victory by relying for the opposition to force President Joe Biden’s priority of border defense funds for a Saturday vote in the House.
After passing a rules expenses, Johnson told reporters on Friday that he was looking forward to seeing each member cast their vote of their conscience and desire. This is exactly how this procedure is supposed to run and how the house is supposed to function. “So we’re glad to provide that. ”
Progressives had a reason to let Johnson go, not because he was Kevin McCarthy, the previous House Speaker. “McCarthy was both ignorant and dishonest, ” Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) said, but “Johnson is really ignorant. ”
Johnson made the illogical choice to work with Democrats to pass Biden’s Ukraine plan twice in two days:
- Thursday: Johnson made background by relying on Liberals on the House Rules Committee to improve a principle bill to the House floor by overriding majority objections.
- Democrats seized control of the House on Friday, assisting Johnson in passing a crucial legal snag to set up the floor vote on Saturday. Voting “yes ” were 165 Democrats and only 151 Republicans.
According to Johnson, this is the best item we can purchase under these circumstances to fulfill these fundamental responsibilities.
Regarding funding Ukraine’s border and not the U.S. border, he said,” We introduced the loan idea so that the governmental help party could be provided in a loan rather than a gift. S. borders.
“Everyone can vote their will and their constituents ’ desires on the Israel aid, the Ukrainian aid, the Indo Pacific, and then our fourth national security package, ” Johnson said:

Soon after Friday ’s voting, GOP Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ ) signed on to the movement to abandon Johnson from the senate, becoming the next part to do so, joining Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY ) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA ).
“It’s standard: @SpeakerJohnson is no longer the GOP Speaker of the House, but Speaker for the Uniparty’s$ 1. 5T deficit, warrantless spying on Americans, and a foreign aid act with more deficit spending than Schumer’s resources buster, ” Sen. Rand Paul posted on X, sharing a New York Times post. The Times’ article underscored Johnson ’s decision to essentially allow Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY ) to take control of the Republican-controlled House.
