Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX ), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week ” that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) was a “profile in courage ” for bringing foreign aid bills to the House floor.
Guest Jonathan Karl asked, “On all of these costs, why did it have to be so hard? Why did it take weeks to occur? ”
McCaul said, “ Well, I think, you know, the movement to abandon McCarthy, which is a seldom used device, just twice in the background of Congress, correct? And the motion’s danger prevented this from being heard right away. I have to suggest, watching your part, I am so proud of the Speaker Mike Johnson. He went through a change. At the end of the day, the report in confidence is putting the country above yourself, and that ’s when he did. He stated that regardless of my work, I will always be on the straight side of history. I Consider that to be what I admired thus far. ”
Karl asserted that he was the one person who could possibly cause it to occur or never occur. Is his task then in jeopardy? ”
McCaul said, “ I tell you what, he’s got any help. ”
He added, “ I think the investment in Mike Johnson ’s stock has gone way up. I believe that because he did the right thing regardless of his position, his admiration for him has grown exponentially. That garnered a lot of value, and also from the Democrat area. ”
