Gunman Dylan Butler said online he was“gearing up ” and used a racial slur on social media before killing 11-year-old Ahmir Jolliff and last week, shooting seven more citizens at Perry High School in Iowa.
The 17-year-old large sniper appeared to demo his plan on the social media platform Discord, where his account was “took2much, ” according to NBC News. Discord told NBC “took2much ” was likely Butler’s account on that platform.
Before the murders, screenshots of information posted to Discord before the killings show Butler was anxious because he was “gearing up” in a bath thought to be inside the high school.
“There’s a n— – in the bathroom, ” he allegedly wrote. I need him to keep so I can put my weapons together. ”
Minutes before that mid-morning shooting spree, a TikTok account with the name “tooktoomuch ” posted video filmed inside what appeared to be a school bathroom.
Another Discord user claimed that she “took2much ” to participate in a discussion forum where school shootings were discussed. That unidentified user, who’s a minor, reportedly flagged the “School Massacres Discussion ” board for the FBI late last year, but did n’t hear back. The chatroom was dormant at the time of next week’s firing.
Armed with a pump-action gun and a small-caliber weapon, Butler reportedly shot Jolliff, four other kids and three university members before taking his personal life in the Des Moines, Iowa, according to authorities. Unexploded exploding was likewise discovered inside the building.
Discord declined to comment on Butler’s reported postings, telling NBC News that the company had a “zero tolerance policy” against willing that glorifies violence and violent extremism. ”
