Former Philadelphia police agent Edsaul Mendoza was found guilty Friday over the death of 12-year-old Thomas “TJ” Siderio in March 2022.
On March 1, 2022, Mendoza and three other police officers reportedly shot at the car that Siderio and CNN reported, and Mendoza responded by launching a fight.
Mendoza shot Siderio three times while he was pursuing and he threw his weapon away during the pursuit.
Mendoza was immediately accused of first degree murder and deliberate manslaughter, but he later admitted to having pleaded not guilty to third-degree death.
When he shot Siderio in 2022, Mendoza had been working for the Philadelphia officers for five decades. He may face up to 40 years in prison over the affair.
