GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis recently claimed on Twitter/X that the alleged murder of 17-year-old River Nevaeh Goddard was directly connected to anti-LGBT “rhetoric” and Democratic policy in yet another attempt to exploit and politicize the demise of an LGBT girl.
She insisted,” Very often, young folks, and LGBTQ children in particular, are failed by the parents and methods entrusted to guard them, and do not think they have somewhere to move in times of crisis. Better must be done by our elected officials and our areas.
She continued,” Officials may prevent harmful anti-LGBT speech and legislation that ignite the flames of hate and violence.”
The truth is that Goddard was n’t killed because of harassment or allegedly opposing LGBT policy in schools or even in a hate crime. Her 20-year-old partner allegedly murdered her, who reportedly repeatedly stabbed her with a dagger over accusations that she was cheating on him.
Shane Curry, 20, of Stow, Massachusetts, has been charged with assault and battery on a home or family member. On April 5, 2024, officers arrived at the child’s home to do a effectively- being test. After being unable to contact her brother for two days, Curry’s family called the police. Prior to the police’s two-hour raid, Recipe unsuccessfully attempted to stop them from entering and eventually discovered the sufferer dead inside their bedroom.
According to reports, the couple exchanged a row during which Curry accused her of cheating on him and confronted her about her substance use. He claimed to have repeatedly stabbed her with a dagger. He told police,” The bruises are n’t working … hitting her that’s not working, so ok, I have to knife her, so I do”.
Curry has a story of domestic abuse, including one that involved an assault on his family in 2023. Goddard’s father, Michael Simmons, stated he had recently spoken with Curry and that the partner promised to “take maintenance of her”. Goddard was born in a prison and raised by her father, but he was expelled because of an abusive setting. She was placed with a home before the status made her go on a behavioral treatment course. Her develop community assumed that she had been missing for the past two years.
GLAAD reported she identified as nonbinary and transgender and used” they/them”, nouns. She also adopted the baby brand Nevaeh and the name River. GLAAD urged “media reporting on Goddard’s life and death to honor his identity and examine how the growing tide of anti-LGBT animosity, policy, and attacks contribute to Goddard not receiving enough support in the years leading up to their death, despite this being an evident case of home abuse involving drug addiction.
They plan to turn her dying into another propaganda tool, solely for politicians. There is no evidence whatsoever that alleged anti-LG legislation, rhetoric, or bullying had anything to do with the case, as was the case with the recent viral death of Dagny ( Nex ) Benedict, as was true. Advocate, an LGBT page, included in the story,” Goddard’s fatality comes just weeks after the death of Indigenous transgender high school student Nex Benedict, who died by suicide after being physically assaulted by their peers in a bathroom”.
As is now known about Benedict’s dreadful story, the young woman was suffering from severe emotional illness, was taking clinical medications, and overdosed in her home a less over a month after her father, who raped her as a little child, was ll- arrested for violating his sex offender requirements. On the basis of her various and evolving LGBT identities, the video evidence of Benedict herself discussing the fight she initiated did not offer any indication that she was targeted. Rather, she allegedly assaulted three younger girls over a lightbulb, boasting that she had slammed one girl into a paper towel dispenser and grabbed her by the hair.
The victim of a hate crime story was fabricated, completely repeated, and no one could find it. In the same way, based on her LGBT identity, there is no indication that Goddard was specifically harmed or neglected. She was raised by a family member, she was taken away because of abuse, and she was then shifted to a loving foster home. She fled as a result of the state’s attempt to provide more in-depth assistance.
She shared a home with an older man that her grandfather was aware of. How did” the system”, fail her as a nonbinary, pansexual person? How did a “growing climate of anti- LGBTQ animus, legislation, and attacks”, factor into this situation? She lived in an abusive relationship. In general, 44 % of lesbians and 26 % of gay men report intimate partner violence, and LGBT people have a higher rate of domestic abuse. Nearly 61 % of bisexual women report domestic violence.
In reality, her alleged murderer is the only one to bear responsibility. Yes, Goddard began life with extreme disadvantages, and her family failed her. She ran away, got involved with drugs, and got trapped in an abusive relationship. However, there is no legislation or awareness campaign or denunciation of “rhetoric” that would have altered these facts.
LGBT advocates and media are only interested in using these tragic cases as weapons against political opponents, much like Benedict’s story. They want to bully, intimidate, and silence opponents using emotional blackmail and outlandish accusations. They do n’t care about helping victims. They only want to take advantage of them to win the following election cycle.
