An Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, weapon is fired during a combined military drill between U. S. and South Korea in 2022.

The U. S. has already provided long- range Army Tactical Missile Systems ( ATACMS ) to Ukraine, according to a Pentagon spokesperson.

President Biden issued a directive in February to provide leaders with the longer-range versions of the ATACMS, which have been requested by Ukraine for years to reach at Russian goals full behind enemy lines.

These ATACMS arrived in Ukraine in April after being first provided in a$ 300 million package that was announced on March 12th, according to the Pentagon official.

They wrote in an email that” we did not declare that we were providing Ukraine with this new capacity at the time in order to maintain Ukraine’s functional surveillance at their demand.”

According to The Associated Press, Ukraine has already used the ATACMS to rocket a Russian airport in Crimea and an area of eastern Ukraine that is currently under Russian occupation.

The news comes the day after Biden signed a deal for Ukraine that includes around$ 61 billion. On Wednesday, the Biden administration announced an additional$ 1 billion package for Kyiv.

The Biden presidency earlier provided older versions of the ATACMS to Ukraine, but the best version is capable of striking target up to 190 miles away, making them highly beneficial to attack at Russian tactical military installations or logistical hubs.

ATACMS have long been on Ukraine’s wish list, even though they have received comparable long-range weaponry from Western allies, including Storm Shadow weapons from the U.K.

The long-range versions of previous weapons packages were pushed by Congress, but the key shipments now sent to Ukraine appear to have eluded also Congress’s members who had demanded the ATACMS.

According to a spokesperson for the Pentagon, the administration was “unable to deliver long-range ATACMS to Ukraine because of eagerness problems.”

” But behind the scenes, the management has been working relentlessly to address these concerns”, the spokesperson said. We were able to proceed forward with this requirement while keeping our military forces in good health because we have new ATACMS coming off the manufacturing line and being transferred to military companies.

After North Korea sent nuclear weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine, and while Russian troops continued to pounce on Ukrainian civil infrastructure, Biden instructed his staff to provide the ATACMS, according to the director.

The spokesperson stated that the ATACMS will assist Ukraine in providing a safe haven to Russians somewhere in occupied Ukrainian territory. The president approved a substantial aid package now, which will give Ukraine, which has been on the defense for weeks, an important increase.
