Megan Rapinoe Joins Gay Advocacy Group’s Letter Urging NCAA Not to Ban Trans Athletes from Women’s Sports

400 sports, including Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird, have endorsed a dramatic Gay organization that is urging the NCAA to refrain from outlaw trans athletes from school sports.

The letters sent to the NCAA on Tuesday by the LGBTQ activities advocacy group Athlete Ally were intended to support male-born athletes competing as girls in school activities, according to NBC News.

The email signed by players, many of whom are now retired, reads,” We call on you to be on the proper side of history and recognize that game is really for us all.” ” Do not embargo trans women from NCAA women’s activities”.

Rapinoe attacks those who claim to be “protecting children’s sports” for speaking for us and doing nothing to protect us in her own declaration about the text.

Rapinoe remarked that the NCAA and the nation’s athletic community should speak up and say that sports should be accessible to all, including trans sports.

The NCAA insisted in a notice that it would adhere to Title IX regulations and that” college sports are the top arena for women’s sports in America,” and it stated in a statement that it would continue to support Title IX, invest in women’s sports, and maintain good competitors for all student athletes at all NCAA championships.

Even though the word” transgender” was vehemently avoided by the rules changes, Joe Biden’s new changes to Title IX rules seem to make it abundantly clear that schools may not outlaw transgender athletes.

Despite the Title IX regulations, nearly half of states have laws restricting or outlawing transgender athletes ‘ attendance at state-sponsored schools.

Some transgender athletes have been allowed to compete in women’s sports by the NCAA, but 2022 updated its inclusion criteria to make trans participation more difficult. Instead of a blanket inclusion, the sports governing body changed its approach to one that is “by-sport.”

However, a group of 17 House Republicans wrote to the NCAA this year to demand that it outlaw male-born athletes from competing as women. Additionally, 16 former NCAA women athletes brought legal action against the organization for allowing men to play as women.
