After a dozen Republicans joined Democrats in passing the bill, Arizona state House lawmakers on Wednesday voted to overturn an 1864 law that outlaws almost all pregnancies.  ,
After the Arizona Supreme Court upheld the country’s newer 15-week abortion cap earlier this month, the vote was the second attempt in three weeks to override the abortion cap, according to NBC News.  ,
” Amid mounting force” three GOP position members — Matt Gress, Tim Gunn, and Justin Wilmeth, joined 29 Democrats to repeal the law, which makes performing an abortion or helping a person get one a felony punishable by two to five years in prison, according to the document.  ,
Members of the state Senate voted last week to create a expenses that would overturn the 1864 law, leading to the House’s section. In that vote, two Republican joined every Democrat.
” The state Senate may vote on the reform as early as next Wednesday, after the invoice comes on the floor for a ‘ next reading,’ as is required under room rules”, according to the statement.  ,
Republicans who opposed repealing the legislation apparently “pleaded with their coworkers” to back down.
Republican state House Speaker Ben Toma said,” We should n’t have rushed this bill through the legislative process. ” Instead, now we are rushing to wisdom”.
Before voting against the bill, House Speaker Pro Tempore Travis Grantham said,” It breaks my heart that you’re ok witness this.” He continued,” I’m proud of my Democratic caucus, which has fought this for as long as it has.”  ,  ,
It is disgusting to see how this has been used as a weaponization of the matter and turned against one group. Following the vote, Grantham apparently stripped Gress and Democrat Assistant Minority Leader Oscar De Los Santos of their commission duties.  ,
Although Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes has promised to avoid enforcing the law and find a way to postpone the deadline, the 1864 regulation is anticipated to become effective on June 8, Democrats have already begun to postpone implementation. Mayes and the governor of Arizona Additionally, Katie Hobbs ( D) has collaborated with the governor of California. Gavin Newsom ( D) to allow Arizonans to get abortions in California.
Some popular Arizona Republicans have even somewhat distanced themselves from the Arizona Supreme Court’s decisions, including Senate candidate , Kari Lake , and past Gov.  , Doug Ducey. Former President Donald Trump , told , writers he thinks the 1864 law goes too much.
The state Supreme Court choice comes as pro- abortion activists are  , moving , forward , with a proposed amendment that would make a legal right to abortion in Arizona.
