After the FBI failed to do a rigorous investigation, the subjects of disgraced former Team USA Doctor Larry Nassar will get a$ 138.7 million payment from the U.S. state.
The patients, who are 139, will each receive nearly$ 1 million as a result of the FBI’s failure to act when they had received information that would have helped them stop the abuse.
” For years, Lawrence Nassar abused his position, betraying the respect of those under his care and health care while skirting accountability”, said Acting Associate Attorney General , Benjamin C. Mizer.

” These complaints ought to have been taken seriously from the beginning. Our hope is that these settlements will give the victims of his crimes some of the crucial support they need to continue healing, even though they wo n’t undo the harm Nassar inflicted.

” I blame Larry Nassar,” and I also blame a program that enabled and abused him. The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee and USA Gymnastics both knew that my national staff doctor had abused me. twitter.com/Ghm3ueLwFM

The FBI is accused of contacting each of Nassar’s patients for a time, during which time some more people were abused. Michael Langeman and Jay Aboott, the FBI agents who were immediately involved, were never formally charged. According to the FBI, Langeman was fired in the summer of 2021, and Abbott retired.
The$ 138.7 million payment is not the first settlement Nassar patients have received. In 2018, Michigan State University, where Nassar practiced, agreed to pay$ 500 million to the victims. In 2021, USA Gymnastics agreed to pay$ 380 million to the players.

Nassar has spent the rest of his life behind bars. In 2023, an inmate stabbed , Nassar repeatedly after the former doctor allegedly claimed he wanted to watch” the girls” at Wimbledon on television.
