A bill that would prohibit physicians from treating children with gender dysphoria, according to West Virginia presidential candidate Moore Capito, may be sponsored by the candidate for governor.
Although Capito aspires to be the next government of the Mountain State, several surveys have revealed that West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has surpassed Capito in terms of lead.
In 2019, Capito served in the West Virginia House of Delegates. He cosponsored the Youth Mental Health Protection Act during his time serving in the state government. The act finally died in council, however, the proposal’s obtaining are astonishingly pro- transgender and agree with the tenets of transgender health care.

Moore’s sponsored bill declares:
( 1 ) Being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender is not a disease, disorder, illness, deficiency, or shortcoming. The main professional associations of mental health professionals and researchers in the United States have been aware of this fact for almost 40 years.
( 2 ) Conversion therapy has been condemned by every major medical and mental health organization, including the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Counseling Association, and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
( 3 ) Research clearly shows that conversion therapy poses devastating health risks for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender young people including depression, decreased self- esteem, substance abuse, homelessness, and suicidality.
( 4 ) West Virginia has a compelling interest in safeguarding its minors from serious harms brought on by conversion therapy, including the physical and psychological well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth.
In the bill’s “definitions” section, it stipulates that conversion therapy should not apply to a person undergoing transition:
The term” conversion therapy” refers to all activities or therapies that aim to alter a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, including attempts to alter behavior or expressions, or to eliminate or lessen sexual or romantic appeals or feelings toward people of the same gender. Conversion therapy shall not include counseling that provides assistance to a person undergoing gender transition, or counseling that provides acceptance, support, and understanding of a person or facilitates a person’s coping, social support, and identity exploration and development, including sexual- orientation- neutral interventions to prevent or address unlawful conduct or unsafe sexual practices, as long as such counseling does not seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity.   ,]Emphasis added]
According to the bill,” A mental health provider may not engage in conversion therapy with a person under the age of 18 .”
Even the provisions of Capito’s bill call for punishing mental health professionals who offer gender dysphoria to children under the age of 18 in their conversion therapy.
According to the bill,” Mental health providers found to have engaged in conversion therapy or to have referred a current or former client or patient to an individual for the purpose of conversion therapy shall be subject to discipline by the licensing entity or disciplinary review board with competent jurisdiction.”
A pro-Trump activist claimed that Moore Capito is “play-acting like a conservative to win the election, but the reality is that he is one of the most liberal Republicans in West Virginia and has consistently backed the radical trans movement.” You would expect a leftist politician in California, not a supposedly Republican in West Virginia, to advocate for making it illegal for medical professionals to treat young children with gender dysphoria.
