Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said Thursday on MSNBC’s” The Conquer” that , Justice Samuel Alito’s remarks about SEAL Team 6 were “mocking our defense” during , the Supreme Court oral arguments on former President Donald Trump’s say that he is immune from prosecution.
Alito said,” One might argue that it is n’t plausibly legal to order SEAL Team 6, and I do n’t want to slander SEAL Team 6 because they’re, no, seriously they’re honorable, they’re honorable officers and they are bound by the Uniform Code of Military Justice not to obey unlawful orders.  , I think one may say it’s not realistic that is legitimate, that that actions may be legitimate. I’ve thought of plenty of suppositions. You’ve probably heard a lot of hypotheticals where the president was state,” I’m using an official power,” but the president does it in an absolutely absurd way.
Brinkley said,” Yeah. I mean, look, I thought Justice Alito was completely careless in including SEAL Team 6 in this. They’re more than heroic, they’re soldiers to the British people. To kind of start playing this game of, you know, they would n’t have been able to do what they do and all of this it’s ridiculous. We’re dealing with a court that is extremely politicized. We have n’t wanted to believe it. There is no resistance for president in our law”.
He added,” I feel that the court is mocking our military. I feel depressed because I spent a lot of my time audio tracking, you know, soldiers, about the celebration of January 6th. Our defense and the CIA are well-versed in what they’re doing, and the notion that a leader is going to, you know, have the authority to essentially make the military a device of the White House is against our great surprise, our civil politics. The jury is stumbling today in a bad way.
