A substitute teacher from Las Vegas was detained on Thursday after a picture of him repeatedly punching a high school student went virus.
Re’Kwon Smith, 27, was detained and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for power with significant bodily harm and disruption of class, according to KTNV.
The incident occurred when a substitute teacher in Las Vegas supposedly fought a high school student who reportedly called him a “racial slur.”

When a student allegedly called the instructor the “n-word,” Smith and another pupil from Valley High School reportedly called it.
Despite reports that the student was detained as well, KTNV solutions claim that the student is recovering from the altercation in a nearby hospital.
Andrew Acevez, a junior at the higher class, witnessed the fight.
” I see a professor fighting a scholar, I’m like’ amazing,'” Acevez told KTNV. ” And then the instructor is really standing over him, only slapping him, saying things to him, and I’m like,’ wow, that’s insane.'”
Smith, who has been employed with CCSD since November 2023,” will be removed from CCSD’s alternative pool and is no more eligible to serve as a substitute in the city”, police stated.
In a statement to parents, Valley High School Principal Kimberly Perry- Carter wrote,” As often, we want to keep you informed of essential issues happening within our class society. We are aware of a dispute involving a scholar and a team part.
” The data is initial, but, please understand that CCSDPD is investigating the matter”, the statement continued. When we have information to share, we will make sure to update our society.
CCSD promised more info as it became available and condemned the violent confrontation in a speech to KTNV.
“CCSD does never bear any kind of crime. Violence in any way is undesirable and goes against the basic values of education and respect,” the school district declared. ” Any altercation between a tutor and a student is extensively investigated, and correct disciplinary action is taken.”
” Court records show Smith faces several charges including power resulting in serious bodily harm, abuse college kid on class property/vehicle/activity, threatening to do physical harm to public school student, and interfering with a student from attending school”, according to 8News Now. He is being held on a$ 9,000 bail at the Clark County Detention Center. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 26.
Some on social media claim that the teacher acted in self-defense, but there is another angle to the altercation. The student is clearly shown throwing punches, too.

Overwhelmingly, however, users agree that the teacher is the one in need of a lesson.
