A blogger see challenges this account of events, saying that Israeli police used self defense by pepper-sprayed and shield-charging protesters on Thursday evening at the site of a potential immigrant camp.
Rallies have been continuous at Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow, which is alleged to be the planned site for a migrant station. Ireland is currently experiencing very high levels of emigration, and like other Western nations that have experienced this phenomenon, the state is having a hard time finding the space to accommodate its fresh residents, sometimes even setting up tent cities.
Then those protests have seen conflicts with authorities, with six prosecutions made over into Friday but, happily, no injuries. According to Dublin Live,” some Garda Public Order Units” were stationed in the area and a fire erupted close to the disputed site’s entrance.
Here, Fatima does n’t threaten the public’s order. She did not restrict the Gardai, or stop them from carrying out their “duties”. Her alleged crime was to issue herself about a man being shot on the ground.

The Irish Police ( Garda ) claimed in their own statement that their officers had been” under attack” and had then acted in self defense. Last night’s picture of the demonstration showed pepper spray being used, helmet-wearing soldiers charging protesters, and shield-carrying officers wearing lines of pepper spray.
Gript, an impartial British newspaper, disputed the officer’s accounts of events, saying it was not clear they were acting in self defense but rather that they had been deployed in huge numbers to push through a immigrant center in the face of regional opposition. Their journalist was pepper-sprayed by advancing police last night. An , “unarmed gentleman was beaten by members of the force while helpless and on the terrain”, they said, and a feminine journalist, who constantly identified herself as for, had , “pepper spray aimed straight at her face, despite posing no threat to Gardai, and complying with their instructions”.
According to the Gardai themselves,” the force of the state has been deployed… in very unusual numbers” to facilitate the opening of a migrant accommodation center that is passionately opposed by the people who live in that little, recently tranquil village,” according to a statement from Gript’s editor.

As previously reported, demonstrations having been taking place at , Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow for some six weeks over reported plans to establish a migratory camp settlement in the little town. Police claim that they recently “forced” a group of “balaclava clad workers” onto the site so they could begin preparing it for newcomers. According to police,” This incident has developed as a result of workers who were contracted to carry out lawful employment on the site, entering the site, and a number of trespassers were also identified on and removed from the site.”
Irish publication The Journal describes how well informed they are of the site’s plans, saying:
The Department of Integration had been looking into the site since it accepted a HSE offer to use the vacant building and its grounds to house asylum seekers because the government is under enormous pressure to accommodate those who camp in tents in Dublin city.
The Irish Examiner reported on 13 April that , works being carried , out as part of the assessment process had stalled at the site. Is it still unclear whether there are plans to accommodate asylum seekers there.
On Friday, the Irish government condemned what they said was” thuggery” by protesters. The , Irish Times said the Prime Minister , Simon Harris accused people present at , Newtownmountkennedy of protesting with” an axe” fire, calling them “unacceptable and reprehensible”.
He said:” I fully understand how communities can have views. I get that. Protest is legitimate in a democracy, I get that, but you do n’t protest with an axe. Because the laws of the land are simple and the laws of the land will be enforced by a Garda Sochána, what happened last night in Wicklow will not be tolerated or accepted anywhere in this nation.
The planned migrant camp protest was deemed a threat to Irish democracy by the Irish President. Over the clashes of Thursday night, four people have been charged with public order offences.
