After a protracted dialogue approach, Haiti’s” Transitional Council” was sworn in as the country’s leader on Thursday.

The Transitional Council will assume the presidency of Haiti for a while while the majority of its institutions hardly ever work and violent criminals led by Jimmy” Barbecue” Cherizier have taken control of big expanses of the capital city Port au Prince. Bis the government appoints a new head of state and cabinet of ministers, past economy minister Michel Patrick Boisvert may serve as interim prime minister.

” I congratulate all the members of the government, the workers, the people leadership, the security forces and all those who have accompanied me on this patriotic journey”, Henry’s resignation letter, dated April 24, read. ” We have provided for the country in challenging times. I want to thank everyone who braved the hardships that came my way.

The email continued,” I sympathize with the costs and suffering our countrymen endured during this time.” ” On behalf of the government, I thank the Dominican individuals for the opportunity to provide our country with morality, wisdom and honor”.

Nine people from the country’s various political parties are chosen from the country’s various political parties in negotiations led by members of the Caribbean Community ( CARICOM) union, which was suddenly seated on Thursday after a slow process that spanned several months.

During his commencement ceremony, interim prime minister Boisvert described the government as a” Dominican solution.”

Haiti, a nation that has n’t had a president since 2021 after President Jovenel Mose was shot dead in the presidential residence, is the focus of the council’s efforts to organize elections. The agency’s intermediate mission will end on February 7, 2026, when a newly elected president chosen in the yet-to-be-organized vote should be scheduled to begin serving.

Regine Abraham, one of the transitory agency’s two quasi- election members, asserted during the opening ceremony that Port- au- Prince has “literally been taken hostage”, stressing,” We are seeing the complete collapse of our institutions and failure of a government”.

The whole population has recognized the urgent need of a strong hand to take us out of this loop of anguish and destruction, she said, acknowledging this extraordinary crisis.

While the government was supposedly being sworn in, there were reports of house shootings and house explosions in Port des Prince’s city and Delmas areas.

More than 2,500 people died in gang violence between January and March, according to estimates from the UN Integrated Office in Haiti ( BINUH). Additionally, the assault has caused the nation’s residents to flee privately for hundreds of thousands of dollars and millions of Haitian people to experience severe famine.

One of the country’s last remaining functioning institutions, Haiti’s federal authorities, fights the vicious gangs to retake control of the country. Potrivit to reports, 19 police officers have been killed or injured since the group battle, and at least 22 authorities buildings have been looted or set on fire.

At a U.N. Security Council meeting, Maria Isabel Salvador, the UN Special Envoy for Haiti, said,” It is impossible to overstate the increase in gang activity across Port au Prince and beyond, the deterioration of the human rights situation, and the escalation of the humanitarian crisis.”
