AUSTIN ( Nexstar ) — , Sen. John Cornyn is running to lead his party in the U. S. Senate come November, and he’s hoping his new title will be Senate Majority Leader.
Mitch McConnell, the present president of the Senate Minority, announced in February that he would be retiring after 18 years in office. Cornyn, a correct- hands man to McConnell, was the first to publish his bet for the position.  ,
In an appointment with KXAN, Cornyn stated,” I’ve been in the Senate for a long time, and I’ve seen the Senate function well.” ” I’d like to see the Senate back working again” . ,
He faces current minority whip John Thune ( R- SD ) and Sen. John Barrasso ( R- WY ), who has held the No. 3 area since 2019, but just opted for celebration whip.
” These leadership tribes are quite uncommon, because it’s all the people, Republican people, in the Senate”, Cornyn said. ” We hope that after this next election, there’ll be more of us, and we’ll be in the majority” . ,  ,
In his first speech, Cornyn outlined his objectives for the Senate. ” We may improve conversation, increase transparency and guarantee inclusion of every person’s knowledge and viewpoint”, it reads. ” There will be no more backroom offers or forced vote on bills without sufficient time for evaluation, conversation, and act”.
Cornyn just spearheaded efforts to win Republican support for a multi-billion dollar aid package to Israel, Taiwan, Gaza, and Ukraine. ” Story does have a tendency to repeat itself”, the senator said. ” It’s in our national interest to do this”. Additionally, Cornyn backed the CHIPS act, which authorized a$ 40 billion Samsung investment in Central Texas.  ,
” I knew that Texas was the position to do this one”, he said. That will lead to a lot of new employment and opportunities, as well as needs on our educational institutions to make the educated workforce to fill those desirable, well-paying positions.
As for his partner Sen. Ted Cruz, who voted against both CHIPS and the support item, Cornyn gave his full support for election.  ,
According to Cornyn,” I am aware that there will be an extraordinary amount of money coming from out of state trying to defeat him.” ” I’m doing all I can to help him, and I’m pretty sure he’s going to succeed,” I said.
Cornyn insists that his principal goal is to unite the Democratic party.
” After these elections are over, come getting unified because the big battle is going to be in November”, he said. ” I think it’s a fact that when Democrats, or any social gathering are divided, the key people that gain from it is your opposition group”.
