KYIV, Ukraine ( AP ) – Russian robots early Sunday struck the Black Sea city of Mykolaiv, setting a hotel ablaze and destructive energy infrastructure, the local Ukrainian government reported, while weapons shortages continued to hobble Kyiv’s forces in the more than 2- season- old battle.

As Russian forces try to advance along the more than 1, 000-kilometer ( 620-mile ) front line, which has seen ferocious clashes in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions in recent weeks, and ammunition shortages have become a problem for Ukraine’s defenses.
Russian troops” will likely make significant gains in the coming weeks,” according to a Washington-based think tank, while Kyiv awaits desperately needed arms from a massive U.S. aid package to reach the front.
The Institute for the Study of War’s most recent operational assessment found that Moscow’s forces have the opportunity to advance further around Avdiivka, the eastern city they took in late February after a grueling, montshlong fight, and pose a threat to nearby Chasiv Yar. Russia would now have the upper hand on a hilltop from which to attack other important cities that make up Ukraine’s eastern defenses.
Despite this, the institute concluded that neither of these Moscow’s defensive maneuvers is likely to cause Kyiv’s defensive lines to collapse.
As he signed a$ 95 billion war aid bill that also included aid for Israel, Taiwan, and other world hot spots into law, U.S. President Joe Biden stated on Wednesday that he was immediately rushing to provide desperately needed weapons to Ukraine.
With Biden promising on Wednesday that a U.S. weapons shipment would begin arriving in Ukraine within hours, the lengthy, agonizing battle with Republicans in Congress came to an end.
